How many coon sets max do I need? I'm proably gonna do 4 dozen maybe 5 and 3 dozen yote maybe more. And mink maybe a dozen or 2. Is this a good choice?

I would say what ever you can run in a day and skin it too while going to school should be the number of sets you have.

base your number of sets on how much productive ground you have and how many sets you can effectively run timewise.
It is better to have fewer stops on the line with gang sets in the best locations. Also much better to run a multispecies line if you can handle it than running over the same ground at different times to trap different species.
Land and water species can be trapped simultaneously but you need lots of trapping experience to handle that.

You’re better off setting one trap for five coon than 5 traps for one. In an earlier post you have a goal of 4-500 coon which is admirable but i see a logistic nightmare in the transportation department. That’s a lot of ground and boot rubber plus e-bike charges. 40-50 traps and set new ground every 6-7 days to optimize your percentages.

Why mess with yotes?, stay in the water, 5 to 8 dollar coon, 3 rats, mink going to 10,..simple pocket repetition.
Number of sets, relevant to time allotted.

How are you going to trap yotes if you are selling your yote traps?

I would go by sign. If you have heavy, well-used trails indicating a lot of coon in the area, set heavy. Of course, you have to make sure you have the time to process a lot of coon assuming you catch a good number of them.

Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.

it will all come down to what do you have time for.

work it like this it takes 2-4 times longer to make a set than it does to check it depending if it is a remake.

start with the time you have to do checks say you need to be at school at 0800 in your seat and it takes 20 minutes to get there so you need to leave for school by 0730

you think you can get out and start trapping at 0500 you have 2 hours from 0500 to 0700 to make sets you make what you can make in that time.
the next day you check them and make new sets till your at time say it is 15 minutes back to the house that would be 0645 you set an alarm and 0645 is your done time go home.

that gives you a cushion of 0700 to 0730 to change out of wet , muddy or bloody cloths and get out the door to school.

I was running 2 about 2 dozen coon traps the last few weeks
it initially took me about 2.5 hours to put them in , I put them in in the afternoon
I could in 1 hour get the check done most days that was 20 minutes of driving and 40 of checking traps and resetting. some days if I moved a couple or the catch was higher an hour and twenty minutes.

the day I pulled traps it took me 105 minutes to pull stakes I guess part of that was getting paid but most of it pulling stakes and hauling them back to the truck.

keep in mind I can drive the truck to within 25 yards of every trap so that is the farthest I have to haul anything.

that was my experience

if you start with 2 dozen DP and work in some coyote sets I would guess you are going to be out of time before you know it .

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
