Need a good turtle bait that will catch soft shells and snappers, I was thinking chunks of fish or bird liver but idk

Want something fresh and oily.

If your thinking hook set lines, go with lung membrane, they have a hard time stripping that.

I usually used bluegill heads and bodies left over from cleaning them -- no guts. Carp and sheephead work well too......

We always used beef neck, from a butcher shop, or ground hog. We caught a lot of snappers and soft shells.

You trapping them or using hooks with jugs? Best trap bait is salmon (heads or scraps). Carp is also good but trap must be set just before dark with the carp frozen when trap is set. Once the carp turns sour (depends on water temp but mid-summer that can be in 5 hours) bait is no longer attractive to snappers.

When I used to catch large numbers of turtles, carp was my favorite bait in traps, though I used sunfish too. On lines, I mostly used green sunfish.

Find a crossover and set for beaver. Every turtle in the pond will take turns getting caught!!

Beef liver works well here.. I’ll keep just enough for liver and onions a couple times a year and the rest is used for turtle bait.

i was thinking about setting for "mink" with a piece of meat on a 220 lol but i have some lines premade with a 24 inch earth anchor on them cause theres nothing to tie too but ima use black bird breasts or fish also im using a little treble hook

I use a large piece of dry sponge saturated in our Trout oil. I put the sponge in a panty hose leg and tie it off and hang it from the top of the trap hanging it in the water. Hammer the turtles if there are any in that impoundment.

sniperbbb i was just kidding man, my dad asked if i could snare turtles i said idk so has anyone ever snared a turtle? and is it legal in OH also i got some birds breasts to bait with but what if i put like 10 minnows on a hook, would that catch a turtle?
