Man, between the deer flies and the 97 deg heat, I haven’t thought about or wanted to go walking.

Great finds. Congrats.

That was just planted only 3 days ago...its a mix of red ripper peas, sun hemp, buckwheat, grain sorghum....in a few more days it will be solid like your millet.....unless the deer ravage it.

I use a drop spreader to seed and drag to cover.

Nice!! Even the smallest pieces or broken stuff is still fun to find!! I’m pretty much done with feild hunting now… crops are too high to see anything now…it’s pretty much creek walking until after harvest.

That piece in the lower left corner looks like Knife River Flint, is that a Missouri find?

If I planted that mix I would have a field of sorghum and toothpicks in about a week. I can’t grow anything besides millet and sorghum here

S94,
That's probably what's gonna happen here too. Plot is about an acre....about 25yds wide and 200 yds long. It mostly juts out into a 2 year old clearcut......a few hundred yards from timber cover.....deer use there is slowly increasing in that area as cover grows back.

Trade. The indigenous had an elaborate trade/communication network. They got around.
They've found Atlantic seashells in the Cahokia Mounds area too.

Look how fast the horse was taken up by Indian tribes. Spanish let a few go.........And 150 years later all the Indian tribes on the continent had them.

Killed at least half dozen deer with knife river points. It was one of my favorites to knap, and had it all - tough, sharp, and gorgeous!

The people of the Pelican Lake culture were very fond of that particular lithic. These are Nebraska finds.

That lithic looks similar to agatized coral that early people here found embedded in limestone rock in these deep southern Georgia and Florida rivers. In this area, coral is the main lithic found. It comes in many colors and is usually transluscent. Many pieces you can see the coral polyps that look like tiny flowers or scales.

The meadowctoft dig done here local, was dated 14 or 19,000 years back. They found material from a hundred miles west, a hundred or more northeast and I believe from hundred plus to east.

This was at earliest levels. So these people travelled long distances . They also like a needle in a hay stack, found knapable materials in a vast wilderness.

The time span is hard to really understand, and get perspective on. But it seems impossible that they would have traveled so far and just blundered into good material, unless time frame potentially larger than we understand.

But if you and your ancestors walked around for a thousand years, you'd probably know a lot of things.

There are locations along local rivers here where knapped coral agate pieces are scattered along the higher upper banks in a several acre area, usually near shoals. These "quarries" are easy to find as there is so much lithic debris that you couldn't walk thru there barefooted without getting cut feet.

These sites had to be utilized for thousands of years to generate that much debris. These locations were likely fought for and fought over as a tool and weapon source and were probably defended to the death.

The most common materials here, are many times from hundred plus miles west into Ohio. There are several local types, but some are real iffy quality.

There are also some mixed in with the river rock, but main quarries pretty far in one direction or another.
