Got a red fox hitting my chickens so I made a couple sets . I have a dirt hole set down the field edge which is his travel route. Today I went to check and he popped up and took off running . I thought a spooked him before working the set, but found a toe in the trap. He popped it off and took off. No real catch circle and he pooped on the large rock I used as a backer to the dirt hole. I remade the set but wonder if now he is wise to the set. Should I move the set ? Will he be weary of any dirt hole now ? Going put in a post set a few yards away for good measure. Any thoughts ? -Thanks

He will be a lot harder to catch now-youll have to get sneaky.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

From my experience he may not come back to that area, If he does he will be trap wary and hard to catch.

Best sets would be a blind trail sat or a snare.

Keep trapping the same spot for other fox.

As Tom Riley said, try a different set nearby for that missed one. A scent post with bobcat or other urine/gland lure should work

TILL THAT DAY.....

You likely solved your problem.

I doubt he'll be back after that experience.

I knew a old guy that trapped fox back in the 70s.he had a dirt hole set that kept getting uncovered.looked like someone took a stick and was scratching where the trap was bedded.he took a 2nd trap and put out in front of the other one.next morning he had his critter that was uncovering his trap a red fox with a front paw missing apparently someone else had caught him at one time and twisted out.

Getting drenched in rain right now; plan to set some snares and a post set this weekend. I feel like bill Murray on Caddyshack with this one, going to blow up the whole field. crazy
