Saw 1 hen with 3 six weeks ago, nothing anywhere since and we have a LOT of hens here. Pretty sure that hen with the 3 lost them as I see it in the same area constantly by itself....
Have 6 hens coming for corn every day in the yard and not a single chick among them....

Saw one hen with 8 little ones. That was a week ago and I'd say they were about 2 weeks old. Saw another hen that acted like she had poults around her, but the grass was too tall to see them. Fwiw, I've seen more toms than hens

I've seen few wild turkeys and no poults.

If you guys followed my posts during turkey season you'll know I had a hen that I suspected to be sitting on eggs before season started. I enjoy working the timeline backwards to see when our local birds were in their peak breeding. This pic was taken June 27th this year. 3 mommas with 14 little ones. They were already right between grouse and pheasant sized, probably 7 weeks then, so 9 weeks old now. This puts their hatch the week of May 9th (during turkey season).

If she incubated for 28 days that means she was done laying April 11th, meaning she was likely bred the week of March 25th. That particular week we had a warm snap, a 20 degree warm up. Temps went from highs in the 50's and lows in the 20's and 30's to highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's and 50's.

I'd say with a pretty high level of confidence that the warm snaps we had in March led to some pretty early breeding for central NC. Hunting late season this year felt even more difficult than normal, and I wonder if that was due to the turkeys already being "farther along" than normal. It was like hunting June turkeys on a normal year.

Our state is running turkey survey July and August. I'm driving alot and fill it out everyday---often a few times a day when seeing stuff. First poults I saw were right on last day of June. I see quite a few hens without little ones but it also might be due to extremely wet weather causing everything to grow like a weed so the hiding is good. Given that I'm seeing stuff everyday I'd say population isnt bad. Pretty much every farmer I know would tell you that it is out of control and they need to go the way of the dinosaurs

Was spraying beans June 7th and came right up on a hen squatted down with her wings spread out, she ran off into the creek and I counted 6 sparrow sized chick's trying to hide. Got off the tractor and slowly walked thru the knee high grass and ran my hands thru it to make sure they all scurried along, didn't want to run them over.
Ended up leaving that "cove" of the field unsprayed, it was 8-10" tall ragweed and other weeds. I'm sure she had them out there bugging and heard the tractor and taken them on the road over by the creek where I saw them.
Those were smallest baby turkeys I've ever seen.

There’s been a hen and 6 or so young’uns around the house lately. Got home from work and saw dead hen and 1 chick on the road. Now can hear the others calling from in the long grass. frown

I saw my first one Sunday looked like maybe a two to three day old chick I figured it was a late hatch maybe nest was destroyed and she renested.

Saw the 1st hen with poults yesterday afternoon. Not on my hunting property, but just across the state highway. Gives me a little hope that some are surviving in this area.

Ive seen poults this summer, just havent really been out in the country much this summer. We've got a lot of turkeys in my area, my county usually is in the top 3 for turkey harvest in the state,

Im more excited by finally seeing wild quail again here...

Saw poults the size Swamp just posted this morning and a brood of quail that could barely fly. It’s on one of the properties I trap and was out there to bait up some pigs that recently showed up. I figured it was a successful first attempt hatch for the turkey.

Have only seen one hen with 6 or 7 poults, 4-6 weeks old, I'd guess.

Seen no poults. Still seeing several random hens but no young this year. Lots of folks in hay this year mid May I am sure didnt help anything. Lots of fawns mowed up this year as well. Almost everyone around me mowing hay has hit a couple fawns this May haying.
