I’m a grown man so let me have it.
I scanned first to see what’s all around. I noticed the deer laying up the road waiting for the pigs to leave so it was in my memory bank.
I shot the back pig first thinking the other pig would run my way. Instead it ran away and to the side.
First shot as it went in the brush I heard a solid thump. In fact I was surprised when it came out the other side as you can tell. I saw no evidence of the deer so got on the pig.
Second shot I thought I was dead on him and it went down on the line in the brush.
I found no evidence of a hit other than I “thought” he was hit based on how he exited the brush. I really thought he was dead on the second shot.
Give me your thoughts. I’ll keep an eye out for buzzards over the next few days on the property he ran into.
Landowner was happy regardless and thought it was hit as well. I’m shooting a Ruger SFAR but had left the backup tripod near the bait sight earlier during the day when feeding. There’s a HUGE difference in the Primos vs the DeathGrip with the ball head. That was my bad, but still no excuse.
Tell me what you think.

All I know is I wish we could do that here with thermals!
There’s gotta be another dead pig somewhere after seeing the vid.

I don't see anything wrong. Looks like a solid play that didn't work out exactly right. It happens.

1st shot on 2nd pig = thumped that pine tree.

2nd shot = shot just in front of pig's front leg and just under his neck.

That second pig seemed to slow down after the first shot. Kinda looked injured. Maybe a leg hit. Second shot looked like it should have also hit it.

You guys that are experienced in shooting moving targets with thermals, is the delay in display appreciable? From the videos I have seen where there is a confirmed hit on something running it looks like they are having to lead the target more than you normally would with a regular scope.

I'm not sure about a delay, but it's possible there is a very slight delay in the digital image the thermal shooter sees.

My experience is limited, but on my 1st outing...I fired for effect. Instinctively led what I thought would be on target. Aimpoint was about the nose on the runners.

No sound, but you can tell when I shoot from the jolt of the image. Running pigs were about 60 yds out.

Behind the ear shot - drops em in their tracks.
Couple years ago my son-in-law and I was out walking in prime hog habitat when we spotted a lone boar trotting across the countryside about 75 yards out straight in front of us.
I shot the big fellow with a 165 grain 30-06 bullet and boy the red dirt did fly off its liver area.
The hog kicked it in overdrive and ran another 50 yards before piling up.
After cutting through 2 1/2 inches of gristle and getting to the body cavity, found the liver had been pulverized….this gave me a new appreciation on just how tough theses bad boys are.

Did you look to see if you clipped the brush as you shot through it? I think you may have fragged the second hog, hurting it, but only slightly.

Just an update…found the second hog today. When there’s 30+ buzzards, it makes finding one pretty easy, lol. He made it about 125 yards across the property line.
