Anyone know of any ? Really just basic lathe work or similar. Just how they work what's what on the machine ect .Would prefer it over a book because all this reading has been giving me a headache and YouTube has been .....meh

It is something better learned in person. The most important thing in machining is measuring precisely and accurately. That you might find some online training on. This. USED to be, some Vo- tech programs had evening/ weekend classes for adults, sort of continuing ed. Covid seems to.have killed them.off here, and seems not coming back

Yeah no machining class I saw locally, not to mention I'm only home for ten days out the month so... In person isn't really the best for me. Would love finding a gunsmith that would let me just hand around their shop, but can seem to find any locally

There's no substitute for Hands ON experience, you need to have a feel for the machine and how it works.

You need to be very involved physically, to learn skilled work/trades. It's like trying to understand a persons intent on here, if they don't explain it ! You can't feel or see the real parts of it!

Likely a CNC course would require some background in machining before taking the course.

Ok again I just want something for a basic understanding of what's what to begin with not a full on whatever. Like in welding and Auto body we had 1-3 weeks in class before we even touched a machine or went in the shop. Had to learn about amperage, what part was what, what part did what, how this interacted with that. Then we got testing on that. If we count pass that we went allowed in the shop. That's they type of course I'm looking for

Big Bobs 100% correct, hands on , For what you would spend on line studying or at vocational classes you can pick up a small lathe . i have seen them sale for a couple hundred bucks .Old ones are great to start using most of the older ones are the best . easyer than you might think to learn basic stuff like fit up bearing fitting and turning. a lathe , good tools and a pile of scrap shafting is all you need , you will even learn how to do mill work ,springs and thousands of other jobs. Actually currently looking at getting my first one soon ish....again problem is I don't know anything really about them and reading about them online isn't been helping much. Again why is like to take like a ,idk lathe 101 class or something. No to mention I have people telling me how I can just get a old machine and fix it and make my own parts... Great...but again I don't even know where to start

Trust me, if you can find a small working lathe . you will be a machinist in short time . 40+ years of full and part time machining , i still love youtube machining, i watch just about all the channels , and i still learn something new. Well any recommendations for a channel to watch like I've said I tried but it slowly these guys are speaking Chinese a lot of times. Idk if I'm just a bit dumb or really I just want a lil deal to chamber my own barrels in there weird lil calibers. There was one article I read and the guy went into a lot of of depth about his lil set up ..just a small table top machine he used for his .19-10 cal wild cats, which I could find it again

It's fun Wolfy no doubt about it. Some things to look for in your machine for doing barrels.
IMO you want a spindle bore AT LEAST 1-1/4 so you can chuck up a "barrel blank", most of which are that size or bigger. Grizzly makes a gunsmith lathe that has a bore of just over 1-1/2 just for this purpose.
Next is one with a " spider" so you can hold the end of the barrel sticking thru the bore.
Another option inwish i had is one with roller bearing steady rest so you don't scar the barrel up if chucked up the other way.
Threading is the hardest to get right for me, and some people make it look easy. Those are some things I thought of quick that you should look for in a machine I've found by playing with chamber ing barrels.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
