All looks great. Better eating, too. Is that your corn field? Farmer sprayed his bean field east of our fence line. It killed all vegetation about 5' in to our property. Killed some of my wife's flowers but no veggies. Less to mow, I guess.

ergo, bibamus.

Beautiful gardens!!
I only picked peppers so far, but all the rest is within the next two weeks. Here is a picture of my melon patch at the ranch. I use the unused corral for a garden spot and stuff does extremely well.

Thanks. That's the back corner of my property behind the barn. The field I'm up against is beans this year. They spray right up against my garden and do a pretty good job at not hitting it. One year I got some drift and replanted a bit but and that happens but thats why I started putting my sweet corn on the outside b/c its not as sensitive so now I have that buffer.

A big garden isn't hard or as much work as you think. Working out the kinks takes out a lot of the work. Once you learn the order of how things have to happen then you just do a little here and there. I think too many people look at a garden and imagine doing it all at once and how much work it is when its really not like that. i.e. turn over the raised beds early early when its still too crappy to till the main garden get it fertilized and ready. Maybe thats an hour when its still cold out. Then it gets nicer and you till the main. Then you can get out your cold weather stuff like lettuce onions and potatoes. If you aren't trying to beat rain you can let that take a few days even. Then the next trick is spacing. Then its weeks before you plant again. Space everything a couple of hand tiller widths apart so you can keep the weeds down and just till it up between the rows every couple weeks. 1.5 wide tiller spacing makes it easy to go down and back and have some overlap to get everything good. Realize your spacing is to the stem and not to the bushy plant so my tomatoes for example I try to get a full shovel length between them in all directions. Other than that its just learning each plant and what it likes and doesn't like. I started on figuring out tomatoes in about 04 when dad died. He always grew them and I set out to be the next best thing.

I hate that I was lazy and didn't deploy my big concrete wire tomato cages with T-post and used these flimsy stinkin things that were laying around this year. The typical tomato cage isn't good for much more than pepper plants it seems.

Looks good snowy. I need to start my melon punkin patch, maybe too late for melons I'm not sure. In the timing thing I was talking about they are later yet. See how all the work spreads out and isn't all at once? Thats the biggest thing to teach someone new I think.

It is amazing how little work is involved when planting on fabric. This was the second time I irrigated those melons all year. Have got some rain but very are well short of normal. No weeds and everything keep moist undah that fabric.

Pumpkins and squash I have planted on fabric also on a side slope of ditch and they are doing well with just a couple waterings as well/

my experience is melons like it dry, we are under extreme drought conditions here in eastern Hardy county wv, and my cantaloupes and watermelons are amazing! not much else is doing well at all.

Yep, they seem not to need much water, the west is a dry area. To much they just keep growing ad seem like they don't produce. That is a good observation.

What thickness of fabric do you use?
