The farmer mowed all around his bean fields and the red tail hawks have been all over getting a good feed.
They should be full for a night roost..

Bird flu took a toll on our raptors here in the past 1-3 per square mile in the fall don’t many now. We had 13 on the lake here in past years had about half of that now.

Cattle egrets do the same things when the field are getting turned.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Numbers down also and hawks and owls are what my observation tells me.

I had one around the hay field today when I was mowing. I enjoy seeing them.

We have plenty here. They hunt in my field year round. They also hunt my bird feeders in the winter. A healthy ecosystem should have all animals

When I was a kid and everyone who got a shot at a hawk owl or eagle took it, there was a LOT more small game.

In the strip mine and large field ag areas here there everywhere had a pair that seemed to be living in the tree line of my back field for a few years. They never gave me any issues and I liked watching them. Got to say though they miss a lot. Went to a falconry event and got to go out on several hunts with guys and was very surprised how few of times they achieved success. They missed their dive attack 75% that day and were the most boring birds to watch hunting. Made me wonder how they don't starve to death.

Wild birds that hunt every day to survive are good at it. The ones that are not born talented don't live through their first winter.

In my little corner of the world there was alot more game around when I was a kid too.

But as I visit my old hunting grounds I now see subdivisions, or farms cleared of fence lines, the low spots that were never farmed are now tiled and plowed, they farm right up to the creek instead of staying 50 ft or so back to avoid erosion and they use all manner of chemicals to increase yields that they never did years ago.

But I'm sure its the hawks and owls that have been around for hundreds of thousands of years that are the problem.
