Have a Ghog job, pole barn building with concrete slab, 2 burrow entrances outside the foundation edge and I have both set with double door Comstocks. Caught 1 chuck almost a week ago, nothing since. Customer swears he saw 2 at the same time. I’m planning to seal up the perimeter of the building but the one burrow still has flies in it. How long will flies stick around if the chucks are gone? Flies typically signal an active burrow as we all know..

If a hole opens back up after the seal up, you will know.

A week is usually good. You can't catch what's not there. Fill hole and tell your client to monitor for new activity.

Herbivores eat a lot of food. They aren’t going to do well in warm weather without eating daily. They’re also racing against the clock to try to gain enough fat to make it through winter. If you’ve gone a week without having those holes used, they aren’t being used.

I caught a groundhog in a hole after a week and 3 days I have no clue where it came from but I would seal it up with dirt or rocks or bricks and tell the client to let you know if they see any activity or check up in another week or so.

PETA is stupid.

Almost everyone on here has been doing this longer than me, but in my opinion the only constant with groundhogs is unpredictability. I am currently back at a customer's property for the fifth time. The four previous visits produced one groundhog each time. Each time I would catch one, I would leave the trap 10-14 days, and nothing. Within a week each time, the customer would call me back and say another groundhog is digging again. I believe the first one I caught was the only one that was actually living there, the rest have been rogue neighborhood hogs passing through, causing a mess. Earlier this year I had a place set for eight days, and nothing. On the ninth day I caught two hogs.

In this picture are three hogs I caught yesterday. I set six traps Wednesday afternoon, and had one before I left. I had four by Saturday, and boom, yesterday three more. I have found with groundhogs three rules...patience, persistence, and expect the unexpected.

Wandering hogs. I’m not sure if they’re visiting their aunts or uncles or they get the urge to leave and start a new clan.

It’s a good reason to offer exclusion. Pay once, never get them again.

Agree, that’s why I do the exclusion. lots of digging for me but way more $$$ than just trapping

We seem to be covered up in ground hogs this year. Between my yard and the neighbors, I am up to 22 in 3 weeks. If I go 5 days without a catch at a hole, I pull the trap and fill the hole. Monitor for activity. Often in 3-5 days it is open again.

Prime groundhog dens are like houses close to a hospital. They are not going to stay vacant for very long.
