With all the talk of archery recently (looking at you wolfdog), I figured I would share my new sticks. I had my second boy almost a year ago to the day and making arrows last year wasn’t in the cards for me. Well, this year was different. Its a yearly thing for me and I was excited to experiment a little. I also need fancy arrows for the moose tag I’ll surely get next year.

I like to find straight as an arrow doug fir and widdle it down to 1/2”x1/2”x40” sticks that eventually get doweled. After culling and A grading you can separate good from bad. I also grabbed a bunch of wenge from a fancy kitchen remodel I was a part of and always wanted to do wooden nocks. It takes a steady hand, but I managed to squeek em out. All that said, i wasn’t impressed with the dowels I was getting and the ratio of arrows and firewood was pretty low. I decided to keep going and to my surprise, these arrows shoot. I mounted a 175 gr lw single bevel Abowyer broadhead on em, and I cant argue with the results. They are shooters and are going in the quiver after I shoot them all and A grade them for flight and point of impact vs point of aim. There is always a few to break over the knee and its somewhat bittersweet. Cresting was fair this go, but it was more a fault of my system and I remedied that after I did them all. Don’t nit pick my lines! Lol. Splicing single barbs is also super fun after a long day of work in the sun…. Hen feathers are from a bird I shot. Anyway, heres my arra’s [Linked Image]

More patience and skill than this boy has. I wouldn't break any of those over my knee if they didn't shoot. I'd think you could sell them for decor in a man cave or to go with mounts or fur displays....

The nocks are wooden. Wenge. Made them with a slight pinch so they click on just like a plastic nock. Shooting a 58# longbow.

I’ve been told a lot I should do the youtube thing but I just lack the vanity to be able to do it. I always giggle thinking about guys out in the woods talking to their camera and all there subscribers. I like being alone lol

Im shooting a Toelke Whistler 58" 58#@28". Other than self bows I never really deviated to anything but Toelke's. They live near me and I fish with them a fair bit. I actually got that bow for a screaming deal. I traded him tanned beaver tails. Win, win.

Nice DT. Closest I ever got was spliced fletching. Anything out of the ordinary is time consuming.
