Yeah, trotline clip. 16" of 100lb braid on the clip and a 4/0 O Shaughnessy hook on the other. I could (and have) recognize them in the dark. I was the old mans slave growing up, running trotlines. I got the deep end of the seine when we were seining bait too, even though I was shorter. This day and time it would be called child abuse. Can't stand trotlines to this day. I'd bait and take off fish. Ol' man would run the motor and smoke cigarettes. By my early teen years I was a master at baiting.

I think most boys are master baiters by their early teens. smile

I sure wish my dad had taught me all that. He taught me some about fishing, but not the important stuff your daddy taught you.

Trot lines are good if you want, or need a lot of meat Myself, I dont' see much sport in it. I do still like to rod and reel for cats though.

My introduction was on dad’s salmon troller. Lots of big kings and never ending cohos.

I still use the snap gear for personal use sablefish.

Sport matters not in putting meat on the table. I'd shoot a deer at night standing on the side of the road if it were just a matter of meat on the table and not lose any sleep over it.

Same for trapping. I trap for a living not sport. Fortunately, I can get it done inside the rules.

I use them as a quick connect on one end of my extension cables. Great tool!

Yep. I only use swivel snaps tho. Replace a lot less gangions and lose less hooks/fish. [Linked Image]
Bigger one for shrimp pot bridle.

I found my share of them walking the beaches on islands in the Aleutians. I saved some. I liked the SS carabiners a lot more. 3 Fiingers I hope all is well.
