Frickin' things are destroying my pole beans. They've gone far enough to tick off the lady of the house. It appears, the war is on and them there beetle's days are numbered.

I don’t think netting will stop the beetles.

Are these the lady bug looking ones or the shiny greenish brown ones? I never see the greenish brown ones here, just the lady bug look alike.

If I can figure out a way to kill the Lady bug things I am going to put the traps for them over my whole 80 acres. They get HORRIBLE in the Fall.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If they get as bad this Fall and they were last year, I am going to consider a napalm strike and just replant all my apple trees after the smoke is gone.

I did the milky spores treatment once and seven dust on my raspberries. Rarely see one now. Used to be THICK.

Don't do the traps. They work but attract them. I was dumping a full bag a day to the chickens. Chickens love em but they just keep coming with the traps.

These are the green iridescent colored things. They eat the leafy parts but leave the veins of the leaves. They will be getting triazicide in the morning.

The "lady bug" looking ones are likely nine spotted cucumber beetles. Really have been horrible this year in western Oregon. I've never seen a japanese beetle where I live.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

they don't bother my garden at all.
There are plants in the prairie planting all around my house that they apparently like better.

The traps only increase the number of beetles to your property. Get the neighbors to use them. That way the neighbors will get all your beetles. Those traps send out a sex hormone scent.. I quit using them years ago and have hardly any beetles.

Bingo!!!
In a former life, I used to manage an operation which had to battle Japanese beetles in landscapes. The beetle traps catch hundreds of beetles, but do not reduce damage. In many instances, the traps will result in more damage than if they were not placed on the property. Spraying plants will kill the beetles on contact as well as when they eat the leaves after spraying. Still, there will be considerable damage when the beetles are huge in numbers.
The most practical way to reduce damage caused by Japanese beetles is to treat turf areas with grub control pesticides in the spring and in the Fall when the beetle grubs are near the surface of the soil. Milky spore takes several years to become established well enough to reduce Japanese beetles. Most people don't have that kind of patience.
