…I see more success in coyote remakes if the first catch is a female … what have y’all observed?

I do best setting the edge of the circle rather than remakes.

I do best setting the edge of the circle rather than remakes. …..I’ve heard of this… don’t see enough hesitation to enter the burn circle down here to uproot lol … maybe snow would change my mind

Rarely have I moved to the circle edge. Usually moving too fast across different properties to do that. So, it has been a remake catch or nothing for me...inside the circle......w/o restaking.
I have noticed that the chances are higher for a remake catch of another coyote behind a female coyote. But, what I always do is pull the trap over as far as it'll go away from center but do not pull stake.....I dig a new hole, new trap bed... & re-lure.

Like to reset the burn circle, plus back off 15 ft or so with a clean trap & make a grass clump urine set.

Not the seasoned pro like many of you fellas. But not 2 years into this and just hitting double digits on my small farm. Do you remake the same set after a catch (dirt hole / flat set) or do you change it up for any reason?
I’ve always heard that there’s nothing better than the scent that’s left behind by any k9 or cat and have had this prove out. Dont have enough experience to determine if sex makes a difference. …. Usually a dirt hole with imported backing if I used a natural one on the original set ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/08/full-105-226151-20c5a7d6_9478_493b_97cf_26277d4187d1.jpeg)

I start with 2 or even 3 traps at each set anyway. So I just rest the one that worked. And I have read often about getting the female first is best but have not really paid any attention to it......jk

Scrub off the blood and reset same trap bed. Dig the dh deeper but usually isn’t needed until the third or fourth catch. Flat set, same. Pile up the tore up grass for a backing, turd for a guide. Urine on the grass mound backing. Relure and fresh urine if no signs of being worked after 3 days or so.
If it’s a travel way remake’s keep getting remade. If it’s one sex or the other, I expect to catch the running mate or additional female, every day until caught or I pull. Regardless of location I expect at least two catches.
Praise the Lord and Pass the ammunition.

I find if I catch an older aggressive coyote, dominate perhaps, others won't enter the burn circle so do a remake a few feet away. We don't have a ton of coyotes but personally I think a lot has to do with how many coyotes in the area. More competition, easier to catch in a remake. When I do a remake it's usually a trash set of some sort.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I dont change anything till I see one not working it. Pretty much my philosophy. But I check the loose soil carefully for that one that tip toes in and leaves.

Well heck...., kinda/ sorta happy you actually made an post that not only (you asked) advice but also one that you weren't looking for an LOL.
I'm 50/50 on catch circles. Apples to apples, I would rather set up outside. As for the female caught first, can't say I've been observant enought to say.
