Over the weekend I competed in the Brat City Strongman event. This is the 3rd year that I have competed, getting better every year. There were 4 men in the "master's" class, which is 40+, regardless of weight or experience. I managed second place. Here's pics of the 5 events that made up the competition.
Log press, max weight. I managed 155 pounds. Overhead is by far my weakest area.
Deadlift, we had to lift, then load beer grain bags into the box. 4 additional bags, for 5 lifts total. Last lift was about 300# in hand.
Pickup truck arm over arm pull. There were 10 or so kids in the bed also.
Brewer's carry. Two half barrels sorta full of water. 120# in each hand. 50 feet down, turn and back.
Stone to shoulder, as many rep's as possible in 60 seconds. I did 1.

The heavyweight draft horses of the human world. Thank you very much for that video. Besides the horse sports, there’s nothing I like better than to see the Celts and other European strongman games. I saw a fair amount of redheads in that crowd. Makes me proud of my Irish heritage.
I also saw a tweed shirt in that booth, that I would love to buy if they offer it online. Just the colours that I love.
The music in that is un surpassed. Every time I see a gathering like that, I wish I was there.
One of my sons said he wants to.find an event that's all static lifts, too big for all that moving stuff, lol.
He did hit his goal of 900# timber frame DL few weeks back, came up fast. He thought he had another 50# + in the tank.
Congrats
There's a "Max Monsters" event here in a few weeks, that'd be right up his alley. No timed events, just massive lifts.
Cool that it's in Appleton, we drove up there for the USAPL High School Nationals some years back. Fantastic bunch of locals there to assist and some SERIOUS young men and young women lifting!
Think it was 600+ kids competing!

Ever think about competing in the highland games on the southside of Milwaukee?
I have thought about that. There are some guys who compete in both. My biggest issue would be access to implements to train with. I am already tight on space with strongman stuff. And what I don't have, there is a local-ish gym near me that has a load of strongman equipment.

Thanks, Pete. I weighed in at 183 that morning. 5 foot 8 inches.

Like I said for a strong man I think I could still toss you over a shoulder and go for a walk. I shrank a bit I am blaming compressed disks , now 6' 1 1/2 " 275
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
