Is a catch pole an absolute necessity for dry ground trapping?

It is for me when I need to release non-targets or rubbed foxes.

May want to check your laws. Ours state one must be carried to release incidentals.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Lots of good videos on YouTube on how to make them and they are cheap to make too.

If you think you will be using it a lot .A Ketch All is a good investment .

I’ve had a need each season now. I use them on all cats and have had to use on stray hunting dogs twice. Made my own with some 3/4” metal conduit and cable. I might have $10 in it. Works great for keeping and releasing.

I have to use one 15 times a year between stray mutts and bobcats mostly bobcats.

I have three in the truck. Mostly carry it to turn bobcat loose.

Matter of fact , after taking this pic , I need to order a new cable and bite guard for one of them.

I wouldn't go on my line without it for several reasons. Dispatch and release. I perfer my custom made one over any I have seen for sale. Lighter and easier to use as I get a bigger loop than any I have seen.

Catch-all is the way to go. 4 foot model, any longer and you loose some control. Shorter and your getting close to some of the bigger animals danger zone. I have had mt. Lions on mine and won’t trust anything else.
