What is everyone's go to bobcat set. Drew my first tag and have cats on camera in a specific location but do not know their actual travel routes. I will just get a cat on camera every time I check which is every few months but last winter I would see new cat tracks almost every time I went there. Will be setting right off of a creek that has pine edges and thick cover edges with lots of blow downs. Walk through sets parallel to the creek in any pinch point? How many sets is too many in a 300 yard by 300 yard area? Do you use Call lure, gland lure, and urine at the sets? I also have a fisher tag so I will be putting a few fisher cubbys in the general area too as I have seen a fisher here last winter.

I like the smaller barrel sets for winter sets they can be winterized using bark or pine boughs over the top of the barrel.

Last year was my first year trapping. Didn't target cats in particular, figured I had a good chance getting one in a coyote set. Did not connect. This year I will be targeting them. That is an amazing looking cat. That would be the high mark of my season.

I set the same as for fox or coyote. Try to set pinch points where all game has to travel. Pulled 6 off of 170 acres in the last 2 years doing nothing different. I’d be prone to listen to what the trappers on here do that consistently take cats, but I’m targeting all large predators to help the small game and it seems to work well for me.

Similar terrain to what I trap. I'm no expert, but have pinched a couple.

Creeks have been good locations, log crossings, high spots on creek banks seem to be active spots too.

CDs or feathers hanging has worked as eye appeal, depending on other trappers in the area, I use surveyors ribbon too, doesn't look as out of place.

I usually run gland lure near the set and something loud up high.

If you can, prebait.

Nice pictures fellas and I would never complain about a 3 cat morning!

To the OP cats are pretty simple and can be taken in some really simple sets.

Find a trail with nothing but coyote or coon or even possum tracks and make a set hoping to catch one of those that made the tracks and the next day a bobkitty will be sitting there all ticked off waiting for you.

I don't really target cats but I have caught several in a big flashy trench set for coyotes.

Haha, like Slipknot said, make the gaudiest set you can make and a cat will check it out. By gaudy, I mean take a kid with you and let them design it. The worse it looks the more attraction it has to a cat.
I made a set once just to amuse the manager when he drives around. It was a double dirt hole set. The dirt holes were the eyes, the bedded trap with an exposed pan was the nose, and I used sticks to make a smiley face as blocking. It was a set just to get laughs. I figured best case it might catch a possum or cat…instead it caught a coyote. The remake which was even worse caught a cat, lol. Try at least one gaudy set, it may surprise you.

If you find a cat toilet set it. Leave scat where it is and put a well blended set right beside it. After you catch, take scat from that cat and put it right where the other was if it destroyed the other while on the chain. Plus save all bladder urine, don’t think I’ve ever checked one that didn’t have a full bladder or at least 3/4 full.
