Beaver deciver's as they are called come in many shapes & forms, but not a permanent fix by a long shot, they still have to be maintained depending on Beaver activity. Removal of the Beaver seems best.

they have there place, the collection area should always be under water and elbowed up and out for head pressure.... A maintenance contract pays for a lot of fuel........

Looks like a ton of work for a half arsed fix. Down or up stream at this RM frequently means a different area along the drain or ditch. Seems way cheaper to trap them, at least for the one municipality around here. The public works guy at the RM I trap in says he made his own to try out. The other RMs just don’t pay enough for even the locals to bother.

About twenty years ago the Mn DNR thought they were a good tool. I'm still digging pieces of them out of the culverts. I can't think of a single place they worked.

I fight with the remains of one all year. Water bottling plant put one in, and it is the only outlet of the lake. Eventually the natural debris built up around the cage enough that the beavers were able to detect the flow through the holes in that debris and then it was on. They built a square dam all the around it creating a coffer dam with a dry hole in the middle. So the company gave up and tore out the cage and shortened the inlet so the opening can be reached from shore, but it is under 2 feet of water. So the beavers plug it easily, and I cuss and spit and tear at it for a half hour every time new beavers show up and plug it. And now, the company pays me to maintain their outlet, and to remove the beavers. They have nothing good to say about the company that installed the flow device, because they claimed it would be a one time expense that would solve the problem.
All of that said, I do think they have a place. There is a nature preserve that has a county ditch and I am bidding an install there at one specific location near a popular nature trail. But I have been clear with them it will require regular maintenance that the county will not pay for, and it may actually INCREASE the amount of trapping that is ordered by the county because as the beavers establish in the lake with the flow device they will kick out young that will go downstream and cause flooding. All of which ends up being good for me. Install the flow device, maintain flow device, remove beavers that move downstream. And no more trapping right beside the nature trail. All wins.

I've been called to take beaver from half a dozen spots where these are and the beaver problems just get worse. Haven't seen one that helped more than a year yet
