Don't see much of them here, but I run an automatic fly spray unit to murder most of the bugs in our house. The lady insists on it. LOL

The fruit flies that have ruined me are the ones that direct deposit eggs into ripening fruit. "Drosophila suzukii" introduced from Asia have been the bane of my existence since about 2008. They at times have ruined up to 80% of my blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Costs me $600 quart for an organic insecticide that actually works to kill them. "Entrust", a spinosad class insecticide.

BP what do the blue berries look when they are infected ?
reason I asked was some wild ones had white scabs on them as and was told it was a fungus from the wet June we had.

You can not grow a raspberry in Manitoba anymore.
As for jelly make a few <100 per tablespoon is not appealing with those little white pinhead samplers in the jams.

Main evidence of infestation is the fruit is soft and one side might be slightly flattened where the maggot is. Raspberries are little red douche bags of fermented raspberry juice with a maggot or two inside. Same with blackberries.

I have had much better luck with a bit of wine than vinegar

so build the trap glass with a little wine and a bit of fruit core floating in it , saran wrap tight over the top poke a finger hole down in the center

that gives you a cone pointing down in the glass

We use the commercial traps and refills ...

[Linked Image]

This and an occasional pot of boiling water down the sink drains.

We haven't had any significant amount of fruit flies since going this way; tried the apple vinegar and dish soap route, didn't seem to be that effective.

We're careful where we buy fruit from now a days and that alone helped immensely.

Wife also washes it instantly when we bring it in the house, but still get one occasionally.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
