I have some traps that I can’t set. Like I can’t get the dog over the jaw. Levers are all the way down. The bottom plate seems aligned and perfectly perpendicular to the trap. It’s almost like the dog is too long? What do I bend and how do I do it? I wish some of you yo-yo’s lived closer. But then again….. crazy

Well idk if this helps. I tried hammering that bottom plate that holds the dog. But then I wasn’t sure if I hammered too much cause the dog seemed too long.

So, you can't get the dog over the jaw, or the dog is too long to fit under the pan once you do?

If the former, check to see if your jaw is up against the part of the cross frame where the dog is attached to it.

As 8117 said, pics would help.

Make sure the levers arent twisted. Or go ahead and twist the levers so the side of the levers nearest the dog are turned away from the dog.

You might also want to try bending the dog post up a bit.

Another option is to bend the dog so it teepees over the jaw.

Cool. Now take that piece the dog is connected to and bend it slightly in towards the jaw. A pair of channel locks works well for that. That will make your pan sit level so it's not up in the air.

Can’t you drive the cars out, I mean if you not strong enough to pull them out I recommend doing some squats and building up your leg muscles. grin

Here’s a couple types of smaller channel locks I’ve used and for smaller stuff they work pretty well.

I think driving the cars out would be easier, but I guess there is no reason you can't pull them if you want. Make sure they are in neutral first. laugh

Looks like you're doing good, smash. You'll be fine. If you haven't done it yet, pick up a copy of Adjusting Leghold traps by Charles Dobbins. Darn good book. Lots to learn in it.

Are those Duke #2s? Either way bend the circled part up till you get the desired outcome.
