I made a guy an offer for an Argo he had listed for 23 weeks. Wanted $7000 and offered 6 because an 8hr drive and some minor maintenance required on the thing. Told him I’ll bring $6000 cash on Saturday but didn’t tell him “sold”. He txts me yesterday saying he sold it. I think he kept it for one more moose hunt…lol
Tell the guy you’re holding it for someone else for $2700.

How much does a used, three year old brush hog usually go for? Did you buy it new? Or used? I think $2000 would be fair.

If you paid $3,200 for it new, I’d say ask $2k and hope for about $1,500.

I tend to give stuff away or ask minimum for stuff anyway.

Also, what Vinke said. If you wanted $2,600, ask for $3,000

Hope you sell it.

What's the price of a new one ? for me I'd buy a new one for 6 hundred more .

I'd take my chances on a used one , ran through a mine field for 2 grand maybe 2200

Thats just my thoughts

Yep, six bills more and I buy a new one with a warranty of sorts. 2 G's was a reasonable offer IMO.
I see a lot of stuff for sale that's too close to new price. Leave the showroom floor and the price nose dives no matter what condition it's in.
If you buy it new and something goes wrong right away you can usually take it back to the place where you bought it and get compensated or fixed. With private second party sales there's none of that

A 3 year old bush hog in our area is worth about 40-50% of original cost. After 5 years, they are basically $500-600.

Lots of rocks in this area.

FYI, we bush hogged 5 acres tonight.

so does the rocks wreck the blades or the gearbox?
I would buy any 6 foot or larger mower with a good box and deck for 500......

Most mechanical goods depreciate 15% to 24% a year.

Some people are not realistic when they try to sell used items.3 years old with three years of use on a brush hog.I would say that you are the opposite of cheap.I see this all the time. There is a depreciation the minute you buy something.People trying to sell stuff like well I paid $200 but I would sell it for a screaming deal of $185 for example.

I think it's the entitlement mentality. Well I paid xxx for it xxx years ago so it must be worth 90% of what I paid.

See it every day... people asking 20k for a 2000 model Tacoma with just shy of 400k miles. Yeah, ok.

Or this one.... 2005 Tacoma. 185k miles. CLEAN title in hand! New tires! New brakes! Needs head gasket and transmission. ONLY $12,000.

I'd spend a few hundred more and get the new one and I'm a tightwad usually.

Well I have paid 650 for a rifle and sold it 3 months later still unused new in the box for $1250 3 months later. Sold it in a week and guy was happy to get it. Tried to talk me down $50 i said no he bought it
But in my case I didn't care if I sold it or not but if I was going to I was going to do well

Anything with wheels or engines decreases quickly. Around here it seems like motorhomes/ 5th wheels are the things people think are worth a lot more than the really are. They put a high price tag on the used item and then it sits there for another year. Now at that point you would think "I am going to have to decrease the price" but no the opposite happens. They stick with the same price although another year has gone by and it has depreciated even more.

Lol those are rare yet super deals if you find one. I had a fella offer me half of a truck I was selling for 3000 and that was not over priced at all. He had a newer truck and I asked what it was worth then I said I’ll give you half of that. The older I get the worse my sarcasm gets

I don't think it's entitlement. It's just business. People can put whatever price they want on something and it's not wrong. Either the right buyer comes buy or it sits until the price is lowered. Always start high. Who wants to give stuff away for nothing?
