Pretty incredible trip we had.. Hunting was cool but traveling across the world and the people you meet and talk with along the way was my favorite part of the trip. Incredible seeing how tapped into the United States everything all the people are and how for lack of a better word privileged we are.

This was a surprise from my dad trip. Kinda a bucket list of his and something I never figured on in my life or had dreamed of.. The hunting was simple and I'd hardly consider it hunting. 6 of us went for 5 days and all had our animals killed by day 3 in the morning and then just picked up our cameras for the next 2 and half days..

Highly recommend such a trip. Keep an open mind and pay attention to the Forrest on the other side of the trees...

Which of those animals tasted best? I have eaten N.M. oryx and it was delicious.

I didn’t get an opportunity to hunt, but I have been to S Africa. We indeed are privileged, simply by birth in this great Country. Every generation after the original family member that settled here loses a bit of the perspective.

How does zebra hunting work? Are they wary, and you put on a stalk while watching the wind or what? I have no idea and just wondering.

Looks like a great trip. What little travel I've done outside the US seeing different cultures was the most interesting part. I would not say that we are "privileged," but instead we are lucky to have been born American.

While eating supper at the Sioux Falls auction Saturday evening, I was sitting beside a fella that had some interesting tales and videos. He grew up on a small farm in ND and now lives in WA and looking for property in WY, owns his own company now. Money isn’t an issue for him. Anyway, I told him that Africas on my list but probably not the big 5. Turns out he’s a connection into some good safaris, not sure if it’s part of his business? $13000 for a leopard all in is crazy cheap!……one day…
His advise, spend your dough. Do do anything stupid with it, but pay your bills off, put some away but don’t try and retire with a few million bucks. Spend some while you’re able to…….i think it’s good advice.

Almost all zebra is spot and stalk. They have a great sense of smell and are very skittish. They routinely mess up stalks on other targets.

That is fantastic, especially with your Dad. Cape Buffalo is still on my bucket list. How big of a pain was it to travel or take your "can" outside the country?

Zebra and Impala and critters that are the most targeted seem to be the most turned on..
We are tenderloin off of all the critters that were killed by anyone during our 5 day hunt. I'd say blesbuck was my favorite tenderloin. But wildebeest burgers, warthog pot pie, nyala meatballs, ostrich soup all dang good. Homemade bread for every meal was dangerous..

Think someone asked about taking guns. We were able to rent a rifle from our outfitter. Ruger 300 win mag with a silencer. I'm probably gonna own a rifle with a silencer before long.

Entire hunt was around $8k but could easily go up fast.

Stay away from the flea markets in Africa. That was the only negative from the entire trip..

Had a half day layover in London. We got lucky and got a very knowledgeable cab driver to just drive us around for a few hours and check out big Ben and palaces and just all the buildings around and statues was memorable..

I kept my eyes open if it was daylight for the entire trip. Saw everything I could while I could... All worthwhile

Road hunting is part of it. We drove lot but all day long we're jumping out and sneaking up on ponds or waterholes and long straight roads..

Great trip, I went in 2004, had a great trip but didn't get my zebra. It really opened my eyes to see how things worked over there.

Exactly! Africa was alot different than I thought it would be. Sable is excellent! Zebra a close second! Bushpig is awful!!

I will never go again ......
