I'd be leery of one of them firing and flinging hot wax all over and into the fire.
You must be dipping them one at a time ???

Dremel with wire wheel attachment (WEAR EYE PROTECTION!) works quickly and efficiently.

How does wax boil? I've actually accidentally had it smoking but that's too hot. Are ur traps still wet when u dip them in the wax and the water is boiling out. Don't want little O trying to get it hot enough to boil.

Revised: I looked it up wax boils at 698 degrees.

I think so….lol
Make the set, pour the wax and you’re good all season. Pull traps at the end and they’ll be good as new!

Outside of mink/muskrat traps I don't bother scraping the wax/fmj off as they aren't usually set on hair triggers.

Sorry Wanna Be, there’s another out there that does it. Keep in mind he’s a Harris supporter….so probably not the best idea…lol
He does it inside on his stove, bucket of wax inside a big skillet of water.

NEVER try to put out as wax fire with water.

Once it's melted, it's just as quick as any other method. I think if you overheat it, it smells more.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Lot easier and better results just dipping in Rustoleum and acetone 50/50

I gave my 330s a quick dip in F1 then FMJ and the ones I’ve used this summer are doing well. Like it so far.

This is my wax setup. I have water in the big bucket and wax in the other. Works great. I’ve never smoked the wax or had a fire using this method.

Laser thermometer is 20 bucks on amazon. Extremely easy to make sure your wax is at the right temp and not overheated. I have a big ammo can that I wax traps in. When you get done waxing and the wax hardens up, close the ammo can and put it on the shelf until next season. Add a few pounds each year

Gotta live up to the nickname...

If traps fire from just being dipped then you have serious issues with your traps, lol. I went to the easier method and avoid hot wax now, I just use Zep’s floor polish. Any traps that happen to rust up over the year get dropped in vinegar and then dropped in Zep’s again. Really easy and fast and can even be done during season if needed.

No, I used a big enough pot I could hang about 6 in at a time.

I did. Created a bit of work for myself. Spent a whole day soaking traps in vinegar, disassembled, scrubbed with a wire brush, rinsed. Now ready for dye and wax, some of them anyway. The alkaline soil here rusted them much more than desired. I'm sure the dye will stick nice to those.

A safer way to wax traps is wax on water. The wax floats. You'll have to add as you go, but it's much safer.
I'll be doing this soon. Have 3 dozen traps ready and 3 dozen more on the way. I'm not messing around this year. Going to stack some fur and have a great time in the northern Nevada outback with my kids. They can't wait either.
