For all my life I have watched what the organization has done.I have never belonged nor will I.Some of thier policies and praticies a person never knows until you have some dealings with them.Their endorsements of canidates are not well vetted. For example they send a letter to political canidates telling them to fill out their form.In the letter they say if you do not fill out the form and do not agree with thier questions we will blackball you.
I knew of a candidate that was given an A rating even thou that candidate was one of the very few who voted against having the the right to vote on a constitution admendment to have the right to forever hunt, fish and trap added to the Montana constitution. Because of the vote it was killed in the legislature.Shame on the NRA !!

They're better than nothing, at least, but they're not 2a absolutists. They agree with some gun control. They have supported and testified in favor of several gun control bills. They're they fudds of the gun lobby world.

My opinion? It's complicated.

I've been a member the GOA for years. Prefer its style and positions. But, I'm not ready to totally trash the NRA--although it has plenty of problems and screw ups.

The NRA recently took major self improvement steps including finally getting rid of LaPierre and a lot of the other bad management team. They have recently won several major pro 2nd Amendment court cases and seem to be going back to their roots. I'm giving them a second chance.

No association is perfect and they never will be. The U SCCA is putting huge long and incredibly annoying commercials on youtube to thr point I will either have to resent them or give them so many thumbs down that youtube stops sending them my way.

I didn't know they endorsed such horrible influences as those men.

I wonder if that mindset would change , as new reps take over the old ones now in charge ? I guess that would be such...a guess.

They seem to have lost their way a bit. Hopefully they can get back on track. I think that for many year they did a lot to help us hold on to our 2A rights. I am thankful for that.

They have great training programs f and certification classed for youth and adult. Put out 3 or 4 magazines and do very well fund raising.

But. They have supported a lot of the worst gun control that has passed starting in 1934, again in 1968, and again in 86 and also with the bump stock ban and advising Trump wrong on it..

I was going to get a life membership for everyone in the family because it seemed like they were improving on their NFA support. But being a big purchase I decided to wait tell the morning and talk about it with my wife. I'm so glad I did. That was the day they went to support the bump stock ban. At this point I'm not a fan.

IN 2010 the NRA gave Tim Walz an A rating. And they even endorsed him over his republican opponent. The NRA-ILA still had it up on their website up until a couple weeks ago, they seem to have taken it down now, But here's an article from a Minnesota newspaper back in 2010 about it. News Article

In 2016, Guns and Ammo magazine named him "one of the top 20 politicians for gun owners". Again, that article seems to be gone as well.

The NRA SHOULD endorse the candidates that uphold their and our ideals, irregardless of the letters after their name.

They do pretty good range safety, firearms training and hunter education courses.

I'm a Lifetime Benefactor Member of the NRA. I've given them a lot of money through the years. I've been unhappy with the recent years of leadership, as have most. I still support them though. I think recently they are making some huge strides in attempting to rebuild the bridges the LaPierre crew burned. I hold the belief that, with time, they will be great again. Currently I've moved my monthly donations to Gun Owners of America and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. GOA especially seems to be making some awesome accomplishments.

I've always said the NRA is made up of the little guys doing the ground work, the range safety, the education, the lobbying, etc. The Executive Board got out of hand and lost sight of the mission. The NRA is its 5 million members, not the board.

As for the NRA endorsing current Anti-Gunners in the past......if there is one leopard that changes its spots with the direction of the wind, it's our elected officials.
