My nephew caught a 19” Cutthroat trout. When he opened it up, it had 3 mice in its stomach. One was partially digested and the other two were completely intact. Anybody else come across something like this?

Anybody else come across something like this? Mouse imitation fly patterns are the primary method of taking big river trout here in the summer at night after the big hex hatches are over. Biggest brown and brookie I've ever caught came from mouse skated on the surface in the dark.

Anybody else come across something like this? Yes, in both native Cutthroat and stocked Brook trout. I have had success with mouse patterns on the Cutties, they are almost always ready to attack when opportunity presents itself.

Never knew mice went for a swim Here its most common where river flows thru open areas and the grass is tall. Mice run up into the grass tops and end up in the water. Along log jams can be pretty mousey too. Most of the water here is log jam after log jam. I didnt observe that type of situation when I fished in Oregon and Washington. Guessing spring runoff off mountains takes care of that out there.

Interesting thread. A trout fisherman of mine said he uses sculpins for large trout. He mentioned mice one time but i thought he was kidding.

Not mice so much as shrews in interior Alaska. Here's a rainbow from the Nowitna with at least 19 shrews in stomach. Extra meat for the Pot!!!! That's Unreal

Garder snakes also. I have even trapped underwater those shrews (that can be confused with mice) in my conibears. So they are available to the trout also. We used super glue to attach them to the hook, #2 circle hook. Let them take it and wait a second or two, slowly pull back and the fight is on. Really those big trout roll more than fight. YEARS ago my best year was18 twenty inchers, that is pretty good for the middle of Pa. But I cheated and swam the creeks looking for them, then went back and fished at night........jk maybe 25 years ago or more
