Need some prayers from the Tman family. I have had ongoing back pain for 10 months. It had progressively been getting worse. Sharp pain beneath the ribs on both sides that feel like a shooting pain that doubles me over and I fall to the floor. Over the months I have had 2 MRI, 3 CT scans , cystoscope and urology exams. Finally the last MRI revealed the problem. On my T10, I have a tumor in my spinal column that is 2.2x2.2x1.6 cm in size. It fills the column so bad it is now pinching off the spinal cord causing tingling and numbness from my feet up to my groin. It is also choking off nerves cause the sharp pain beneath my ribs. Had surgery scheduled on August 29th at Sanford in Fargo ND. Surgery was denied by insurance and the way it was explained to me, the doctor wanted to do two surgeries, removing 2 tumors and one of them would need to do a spinal fusion due to spinal weakness from removing the tumor. His intention was to do one or the other but worded it as two surgeries. Insurance was awaiting a 1vs1 call with him to clear it up over the last 10 days so surgery could proceed. Found out on Tuesday he is no longer doing surgery for Sanford. They are setting me up with a replacement surgeon but need to start over with consult. I FINALLY took this as a sign and decided to go to the Mayo Clinic. Did some reading and it could take a long time to get in. After some chatting with some folks I decided to go to Mayo ER. So after an 11 hour day at work on Tuesday (I have yet to miss a day of work related to this back pain) the wife drove me the 5 hours down to Rochester. We were in the emergency room from 10pm on Tuesday night until 2pm on Wednesday afternoon. I met with many doctors and nurses and I have to say there is no shortage of professionalism in this clinic. After another MRI and CT scan, they determined that it is very unlikely this is cancerous. They believe it is called a Schwanoma tumor based on shape and location. They do not have a date yet but are putting a team together to make a plan on how to perform the surgery. This is a very risky surgery with risk off paralysis and they would not want to do an emergency surgery without the time for the team to come up with the best plan. Without the surgery, paralysis is imminent within 6 months.
So the surgery is going to be within the next two weeks and I am asking for prayers that God will guide the hands of these fine surgeons that will be performing this surgery. I am very appreciative of the support I have received so far and with more prayers I feel confident I will walk away from this surgery in a couple weeks.
