For the most part we don't use metrics on the job, unless it's a car plant job or the machinery comes from outside the U S.

One is as easy as the other to me and I'm closing in on 60. So it's not that hard to learn it.

There must be more profit in 9/10ths of a gallon of gas as opposed to selling it by the liter. Otherwise the gas companies would be paying off politicians to go metric.

First it will be: Convert to the metric system, then some will propose we should adopt Sharia Law. When will the madness end???  crazy

Too late now, but doesn’t your military use mostly metric? Country is all carved out in miles grids. I know for long distance shooting it’s way easier with a milrad scope.
If you happen to find the 10mm socket, sell it on eBay, they’re worth a lot!

huge NO for me. I can use either system and have to when I travel internationally but I prefer the Imperial system.

I'd rather not but it is easier in lots of ways.

40 years ago my teachers always told me 3 things.

1. Show your work! You’re not going to be walking around with a calculator in your pocket when you grow up.

2. You need to learn to spell! You’re not going to have a dictionary in your pocket when you grow up.

3. Learn the metric system or you’ll be lost in 5 years, the whole world is going to it.

Strike three!!!

Should have changed in 1980. Well, at least us scientists changed. Now I have to go catch a trophy, 52cm trout.

P,S. Those trout are only a few klicks away.

dude how is that working for you

13mm is a touch larger than a 1/2 like a loose half

7/16 is 11 mm

I say no

and I have no issue with us using both

my biggest argument against going Metric would be the many Billions of wasted dollars in new signage in every municipality

IF they were going to work towards it , all speed and distance signs would need to start changing as they get replaced , that will likely take 30-40 years

The thing I hate is when you have a piece of equipment that is both metric and SAE.

A few years ago I was putting together a wood splitter. One of the bolts was too short so I went to make another one out of a longer bolt.
Turned out that the original bolt had a metric head but an SAE thread. How does that happen ? Required an extensive vocabulary to get that one sorted out

Isn't our money system metric already ? It is a base 10 system.

And compare and engineer's scale to an architect's scale. The engineer's scale is divided by tenths and the architect's by sixteenths.

I could really see some disruption in the construction industry. Building materials may need to be modified in their standard dimensions and the tooling in mills etc may need to change.

The only way to do it is to jam it down American's throat's!

You will only get pushback if you try to do it gradually, like is happening now.

I worked at several places where all the blueprints were Metric, and all the measuring tools were English. (SAE) The Co's refused to buy metric tools, so we had to go over the BP's and convert all dimensions, and may whatever Gods there be protect you from an error.

American car companies switched over decades ago.
Why ?
Easier to sell your cars in a global market.

One of the more difficult problems to overcome is how things are made and converting the machines to make a metric product. Some people may remember a 64oz (1/2 gal ) bottle of soda. Now 2L (67.6oz) is common.

How hard would it be to make a 4 liter jug of milk than using the 3.78L gallon size ?

Standardized sizes make sense in a global market. The change over is costly but it is time to join the rest of the world.
