Our hunt fell through when the geese moved to a newly cut field yesterday. So I talked to a buddy who we planned on hunting monday with. It wasnt his hunt but his buddy said The Boy could tag along. Long story short they were on the X and they finished 4 short of a 6 man limit. So all was not lost.

Our "early season" opened here today too. I didn't hear any shooting but a buddy did send me a picture of his taken with an 1870's Flintlock muzzleloader.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I take the breasts and cut out the silver skin leaving 4 pieces. Wrap each piece in bacon and grill. Yum........congrats on the successful hunt.

Nice action!!

How things have changed since I was in high school in the late 1970s and resident Canadian geese, here in SD the "giant" sub-species, were still being carefully introduced in various parts of the state. Obviously, the "Canadian" geese figured out that they could live just nicely with the right mix of water and crop agriculture. What a difference a generation can make...

Those goose filets would have gone nicely with fresh picked mushrooms.

We got The Boy and his buddy on another good feed Monday morning. Birds were wary but cooperated enough to scratch out a 4 man limit. Last bird was shot with the the trucks in the spread, lol. Always enjoyable to spend a day just dads with their sons.

Not sure why the picture came out so blury.

Now it's back to school. He is very excited as he got all the electives he wanted and all the "good" teachers (his words) He told me a week ago he'd had enough summer and was ready to get back to school. Not how I ever felt but he really enjoys it. Thank goodness.

Mom's obligatory first day photo shoot.

And for anybody interested, first off thanks for the prayers and good vibes! We retested his kidney function and it showed at 40%, Dr. said only a 10% chance he'll need a new kidney in the next 4 years, most likely 7 to 10 years before needing one. They will test every 3 months going forward and he is scheduled for an ekg and we all are getting genetic testing to hopefully find any unknown complications that could show up later. Thanks again prayers work!!
