Wow way ahead of us here. We have not even started corn silage yet. Hope your yields will be good. Nationwide they are predicting the 3rd largest crop ever. Here will be about 20-35% below normal trends. Even our earlier corn with decent stand counts is short. First silage near me is scheduled for the coming week. East of me we have a wide variety of late planted corn and many acres never planted.

Best corn we have ever picked here, by a good margin. Marginal stand too. We are in a pocket that got pretty timely rains, west of us not so much.

Some of the fields are close here, but I've not seen any corn harvested yet near me. The field across the street from me always gets put in late by a renter. It's probably got 3 weeks to go still. It's been dry, but the corn around here looks good anyways. Most beans look good, but I've seen a few fields, that were probably planted late, that didn't get rain when they needed it.

We've picked some upland fields that were over 160. Our bottom ground should be better.

Yes sir, do you farm my friend?

They've just started cutting corn around my place in VA. We don't have the big fields that you all have in the midwest like that. I'd bet the majority of what's farmed in my area is <15 acres per field. I've got 60 farmable acres that I lease out across 7 fields and I had 3 local farmers in-line looking to lease when I bought my place.

Hope y'all have a safe and productive harvest.

Some corn got planted here in April and no frost. We got over 13" of rain in May and it's really good corn.

just started around here combining - chopping silage mostly done - piles made - been shooting a few doves over field chopped a week ago. Fields chopped a couple of weeks ago were covered up in hundreds of doves but not near the early chopping this year with adequate rainfalls.

I saw the very first being chopped for silage here yesterday afternoon. They were finishing up the fields early this morning. Should have geese in fields this evening.

It was still quite green where they were chopping. It'll be a long time before see anything that brown and dry around here for them to shell. We've had quite a wet year. Guys are saying good crop but at horrible price considering the inputs.

I saw a guy shelling south of town. I heard he has already picked some that supposedly made 136. I was surprised anything in this county was yielding that low. Rain varied widely locally though. I would say the corn on our ground is still a week out.

If you are after doves, southwest Kansas is covered up with them. I was just out there last weekend. Not for doves, but I was wishing I brought my shotgun.

Bryce, i noticed on my trip out to NTA that the corn in southern to mid-wisconsin seemed way behind us over here. I attributed that to the extensive rains. I saw a lot of water still standing in the fields in wisconsin. We are probaby a week away from hard core silage harvesting. They are busy emptying manure pits and finishing 4th cutting hay right now...after that, it will be go time.

Two neighboring counties do a lot of corn silage dry down events to help producers know when the crop is at the right stage. I read the results of 20 some samples today and September 10th to 23rd were the results for bunker storage moistures. Interesting most of these were planted from May 4th to the 16th. With all of our heat and rain this is late for that planting date for us. We have a lot of June planted corn that won't be sampled for a couple weeks at best.

Some 85 day corn that’s planted on sand we will probably do next week, then we might be able to run in the 95 day but it will probably be at around 27 percent but we will dry it to keep running we’ve been hurt here with a wet spring and now the dry weather is hurting us again, beans never have closed the rows and they have a weedy mess.

Still a little early here, but corn and beans both look good. I talked to an older guy the other day that thinks this will be the best corn crop he's ever had.

Corn went from green to brown mostly over the last week. I doubt moisture is low enough yet for harvest, but it wont be long. Beans are still all green.

Just opened up the first field today. The first we planted is a 90 day Augusta variety. Running 17% , pushing 180 bu/ac I am very pleased with that. My son even got to hop in after school!

As far as price, our local feed mill is at $4.58 today, that’s a .45 positive basis. We’re drying and storing in grain bins hoping for a better price Jan-feb-March

Lol Bob , she’s clean right now, that won’t last more than a few days. Been happy with this machine , s660.

I’d consider her a “ mighty fine combine” , how do you define?!

Last MF we had was a 165. Good tractor! Lack of service put a lot of green machines in the fields locally. Until recently, Case is back in the game . These new Massey sprayers have caught my eye, I’ll be watching them closely as I’m in the market for a sprayer.

We have more Claus then Deere choppers here. New Hollands are also common. Deere is the big one for tractors and combines. Fourth cutting is fast I know. Last night our son and family hosted the x country teams to a pasta
feed. I was over there for two hours and 1 chopper did 3 fields that totaled about 120-140 acres. They were merging 72 or 90 foot.

Yes sir,
Man we sure enjoyed a couple years down in your area where my son was a pitcher at the local college.
Good luck with your harvest.
A few fields getting picked here too. So dry this year. If you didn’t irrigate then it’s about done here.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I saw an extensive convoy of chopping equipment being hauled north on 23 this evening. Not sure if they had finished working something further south or what.

I grew up on a corn field. I woke up one morning to what looked to be a hundred thousand geese out on the corn stubble. My dad pointed out to the field and said "you want to bust some birds?"
I had never seen them like that before, and I wasn't a waterfowl hunter r
At the time, so I declined since I figured they'd all spook soon as I walked out there.

I remember there being a cargo truck that drove alongside the harvesters. I guess the times have changed

We have one farm not far from me that milks 8,000 cows in two facilities. When they get rolling they will have 3-4 choppers going and that means about 2 dozen semi trucks to keep up with 3-4 packing tractors. The fuel oil delivery trucks empty out their tanks right in the fields.

Yes sir, when did you all plant the corn down there, early April or maybe even late March...?

Very first silage field chopped near me the end of last week. Lot of really green corn standing and several fields that have not tassled yet. Going to be a drawn out season. Not near as many acres for grain this year as many more acres needed for silage with the marginal yields.

Neighbor started chopping silage yesterday but said it will be quite sometime before they start combining corn. Beans are just starting to turn this week. Should be a bumper crop for both. Typical with the market being so low the way it is.

USDA still projecting a 3rd highest corn crop ever. It will be however with way more variability than is the norm. States like WI and MN will have much below normal trend yields this year.

Sure does. Corn right now is selling for quite a bit below the real cost of production. Many will get through a couple years like this but the higher cost operators or those with other options will have decisions to make. Our son works for a firm that makes the large high wheel sprayers. They have 8 lines they will drop to 5 and he will probably be looking for a new job. He works in the finishing and detail area. With htose prices for beans, corn and wheat sales are slumping a lot. The new farm bill could get costly if all those cropps fall below target prices.

Seems early to me too, but some of these new varieties don't hold to my sense of time, I guess.
I worked in Manning yesterday at the old Casey's store. The restaurant you are talking about must be the one across the street from there to the east.

Just got back from NE Arkansas

No idea what total farmed acres they had but had around 230 bu/ac yield and it had already been sold and gone when we got there.

Not surprising to see corn being early when conditions are good. Corn is primarily a heat unit plant or crop and heat is one thing we have had a lot of this growing season.

Do you have "smart' tractors/combines?...

Somewhat I don’t look at the fuel usage as it scares me.

Every thing is moving to maturity faster than planned here. Lot of Mid May planted corn got dry fast with minimal moisture and a lot of heat. Most pile and bunker corn is wanted at 67-68% moisture. Some was getting down to 62-63% a week before planned harvest. Even mid June planted corn in our clay is firing and even the top leaves are dying as the corn had a lot of moisture early and did not develop deeper roots. A lot of the corn tassled early and will be ready far sooner then anticipated and is very short 6 foot instead of 9 foot. Too early to have tonnage reports but with most big farms with scales we will have accurate information soon.

Beans turned really quick here. Most fields had very good vine production and flowers. We will see if the dry September here and lat August will cause us to have fewer beans in the pod and or smaller seeds.
The best thing for our farmers is corn will be lower cost to buy to fill shortages we will have.

Bryce

A few farmers are chopping silage right now and said it's a bit dry. Everyone has been trying to finish up haying and said they should have had the silage in by now. Corn and beans are turning fast here too and I'll be close as to which comes out first. Either way it looks like a bumper crop for most of the farmers around here.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Good weather sure allowed the farms to knock out silage here. Soybeans are coming off quickly here now. A few said they were 11% and should have started sooner.
