Anyone else out there hitting it? Gotta be somebody........

Been making it for the last 3 weeks, still have alot to make.

No dirt but dyed and waxed a bunch of traps this weekend ........ much to my wife's displeasure. The week before that I spent literally two days from sun up to sundown grinding fish and prep'ing bait.

Just finished about 60 gallons of waxed dirt 2 weeks ago.Traps were done in the spring.Time to keep scouting new areas

I made a ton of waxed dirt last year and ended up not using much because of deep snow in early December that never went away, so I still have plenty. I found that July works better than August if you are using the solar heating method...of course that depends on your luck with the weather.

I made the first 6 gal last night. Only 60 gal more to go! I work at it all season. While I'm skinning and fleshing I'll have a batch on the stove.

Been at it for a week now.

I do 3 lbs wax added to 20 lbs warmed dirt but I do it in an old cement mixer, heating the dried dirt with a weed torch and adding melted wax to it.... 2 minutes on spin cycle and there you go.

Mixed bag-Scott you are to organized for me. Will have traps done by end of August-I hope dirt is soon when weather stabilizes. Painting trim on house now, then doors on my shed.....jk

Buzzard, if I trapped that far south, I would be using straight peat also. Not sure just how cold it gets in your area,( I mean, you are in a southern state) or how much rain/freezing rain/snow/below zero weather you get in North Carolina. In this area though, we get lots of all of the above and it often jumps around from one to the other. I do use some peat at times. Most of my canine 'trapping", after December 15th, is done with snares.

Yep I have two large barrels full of it. I mix it with peat moss and it works great never froze on me yet.

I also use alot of ant hill dirt,works good for me.But it will get wet eventually and it will FREEZE.

True wildWV ! It does shed some rain, as will cedar duff...and it looks real natural and blends some flat sets in nicely. As far as holding up long term, No, it won't and won't shed water in heavy down pours like waxed dirt or peat....But even that will have to be redone on occasion!

Ant hill dirt is still dirt. It will freeze and take on moisture,however it is just a bit more tolerate of moisture. Dont expect a freeze proof set with it. Wax dirt and peat are the better choices for longer maintenance free set ups.

I looked at and used last year as a cover at the set LAMP OIL. It is LIQUID Parfix. NO SMELL and no refusals. I will make up dirt this fall on the dry windy days. Last season I just sparyed it on my sets to see ifin the critters could sence it. I caught yote, fox (both) and bobcats on it so I recon it should work.

I use FIRE ANT dirt and peat moss mix for bedding traps. The mix speeds things up a lot and using the liquid parfin to treat the fire ant dirt otr just make it better...

Just an idea for you feallas wanting to spped thigs up.

Got the latern fluid at walmart and use a pump sprayer to spray the dirt.
