My guess would be green sunfish.

I'd agree with this.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Not a pumpkin seed. Not enough orange. I think it's just a regular sunfish.

Green sunfish have a bass- like mouth. That's not one.

Wow! Never heard of pumpkinseed before. I been getting a few of these in my traps. Been letting them go but missed one.

Green sun fish for sure. Not enough orange or black on it to be a pumpkinseed. Very common here in the rivers and ponds. We also have some Pumpkin seeds but not as common.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

Thanks MT bowhunter. Been getting a few minnows for some fishing in small crick. I have seen them before but never paid much attention to what they were. Really a beautiful fish.

I don't know the sunfish in Montana so take that into account. I electrofished Ohio for 13 years. Bad photo, but I would call in a juvenile pumpkinseed sunfish. Seen many thousand of them.

Absolutely not a green sunfish or a bluegill.

When the pumpkinseed get bigger, they get pretty blue markings on their face. I find them strongly associated with aquatic vegetation here in Ohio. Where you find weeds, you can find them in good numbers.

Looks like a baby bluegill to me. I think the bright sunlight on it really has the colors appearing vividly, leading to the confusion. Not a green sunfish for sure.

Is there a red spot on the rear edge of the gill plate? Even the baby pumpkinseeds will have a bit of red there.
