Was going to rent a stump grinder. Wanted to scan my license into their computer. Last thing I need is to get arrested cause somebody got a ticket using a fake driver license with my name and number on it. I know some of you are computer literate. How safe is it?

For something like that, I would be careful, Danny. I can see that for some other things, more important, such as health appointments, proof of insurance, etc. but not that one.

They scan your license at the local convenience store here every single time you buy beer, smokes or a lighter. That or the register won't ring it up. No problems here.

it is all the info from the front built into a barcode in the back

speeds it up and makes it much harder to make a fake

we have a scanner provided by the community group that is loaned out to temp class B like festivals , you can scan the back of the license and you have the info on the screen you spot check an item and issue them the wrist band to buy beer at the ball game or beer tent , concert , festival.

yes they have your info then , of course if the clerk typed it all in they would also have it , if you have a store saver card they already have your info a well.

Alter scans my license when I sell them aluminum cans or scrap. Never had a problem with that and I'm guessing save them from possibly buying some stolen items,??? It doesn't seem like it was that long ago we worried about throwing something in the trash with our address on it. Guess times have changed.
Yet for everything good there is probably a hack..

I would surmise no different than a photocopy or typing the info in but I don't know for sure.

many gun shops have this and can scan your license and it fills out most of the 4473 on the screen

May have my wife rent it. We dont make money with her license.

I don't have any store cards. Never figured out how a business can make more money charging me less if they have my information and keep tabs on what I buy.

say you buy the same 30 grocery items each week when you go the store , many of us are creatures of habit
you scan your savers card and buy the same coffee , pound of butter , gallon of milk , lettuce , orange juice , hamburger , chips , beer

if you have a history of 26 weeks of those items , they can predict you will probably buy those most of the other 26 weeks of the year , of course holidays change that.

Many motels scan your DL into their system when you check in also if you are not a member of their frequent traveler program. Pretty common practice.

I get that stores need to know what sells. Just not why who buys it.

City of Columbus just got hacked 1 month ago. Mayor was not open what got stolen. What got put on the dark web. Well guess what. Anyone that had anything to do with the city. Directly or indirectly is affected.
