I have an opportunity to trap coyotes on a 8000 acre ranch. The kicker it's 35 miles one way to check. We have a 24 hr check here also. Not trapping for the money, although it would be nice to at least pay for fuel. How far do some of you travel to check?

If it were me, and I don't do anything even close to that scale, I'd do a vacation type thing. 1-2 weeks, then out. Could be fun.

35 miles is a short drive.....but trapping that only for fur is a limiting factor....unless you catch several bcats.

35 miles one way is not a big deal at all, especially for that much land.

Not to far but I don't crank the truck unless I'm getting paid.

Are there any other benefits that could arise from you trapping the ranch? Fishing / hunting rights?

130 miles round trip to trail head then 50 to 100 miles a trip on snow machine, depending checking or setting up, for over 40 years!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

Why worry about 35 miles if that is what you want to do. My wife drives 150 miles one way to go to Walmart. The 24 hour check is a problem.

Heck, 35 miles out west is a chip shot, but everyday?, maybe plan a long weekend with an overnite camp or a week vacation...

Seems like a fairly short distance to me. I'd do it, looks like lots of opportunity.

Farther than I'd consider by itself. But I'd set every 3 miles for the 35 miles there and same thing on a different route back. A big loop out and back. But thats just how i put a line together for me and that might not be option in your case

does it come with hunting permission on the 8K acres ?

it seems like about 90 minutes a day driving we do that for work often enough , the question is what does your time budget look like

if you have an 8-5 that would be rough to try and trapp it before or after work.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I like that idea.

My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

50 miles for cats only because I like catching cats.

I turkey hunt in far northeast Nebraska along the Missouri River. It’s easy to get turkey permission, so Id bet picking up 4-5 more spots along the way for coyote trapping would be a piece of cake. Then pick up 4-5 more on the way home. Make a loop out of it. Thatd take time, so id use vacation for it.

Coyotes and badgers are the only species living in that country. All sandhills, nothing but grass and barbwire fences. Not a paying gig, or anything to hunt on it. No trees for miles. I'm retired, so don't have to worry about work. About halfway there, I'm already trapping on 4000 acres. Forgot to mention that. If the weather gets bad, going tobe a real bugger to get to. My plan is to get in early, hit hard , then get out
