Look at Boeing vrs starlink
The best and brightest aren’t working at Boeing,,,
Union’s breed mediocrity
I won't deny that this might be true in some unions. It's not the case in the building trades. If you don't know you're trade and pull your weight, you don't work. The lackeys don't get to drag everyone else on the crew down. They do a good job of weeding themselves out. Your work is your reputation Your reputation keeps you working Or keeps you from working Pretty simple concept in the building trades very well said. they don'tont understand everything single union setting is different. spjones in that case that would be management failure. It they don't hold workers accountable they are not doing their job. They may have to do a lot work but they can get rid of anyone. If they are not the failure is on them. when they don't it makes more people resentful and the negative mind sets spread throughout the plant. union or non management failure has the same result Hey bucks when the construction job's are done and we were wrapping up it is common to have the superintendent give left over stuff to the men that built the project vs halling it off for junk I got given 400 #4 rebar 16' long off one job. often the cut offs that would be thrown away as well. I have 110 8' 2x4 in the barn I got from work on a scrap pass. it came in as cribbing in rail cars I took it apart and removed the naild and took them home. The company has to track its wast and has dumpsters for wood scrap. they prefer employees to take it. I guess it would blow your mind to use something instead of throwing it away. currently it's been 16' 2 x 8's coming in on the rail cars not 8' 2x4's from a new supplier. I really need to get my big trailers new axel put in.

I don't know about the construction. But in automotive and industrial areas Union breeds one concept. Not My Job ! 35 yrs of experience with that.

I agree with you 100% I've spent A LOT of time in the car plants through the years and seen it happening. The UAW give all unions a bad name. The facility I'm at currently is Steelworkers. We're there to "help" maintenance because they can't keep up. Daily I pass through the maintenance break room to get paperwork signed by the supervisors for hot work, confined space, roof access, working from ladders,SPA's,etc. most of the maintenance dept is sitting in there streaming movies while I'm doing their job. If they would get up and do their jobs, I wouldn't be in their facility. I'm glad they're lazy, gives me a 40 mile drive as opposed to driving to KC and dealing with citiots.

Different unions, different job titles but all in the same workplace like mine, it helps to be friends with everyone. Even though it’s not in your job description, you do it to help a buddy out.

I'm IBEW. The top brass are basically politicians. I don't care if they moved up in the ranks. They lose touch at that point. The vast majority of the Union working body are blue collar conservative. The days of the Dems supporting the working man have been gone for decades. I just throw the IBEW newsletter straight in the trash when it arrives. It's just pictures of Biden and Harris and green energy projects. I'd stop paying dues immediately if I was legally allowed.

I like the trades. It's like the nfl, which is a union too. You're only as good as your last day of work. I don't want to work with a slug. The trades is not like factory work. You gotta get the building up on time and on budget. If you don't, the company won't survive and you will be out of work then. It's a two way street. The company gets you the work so you earn a living, and you do the work on time so they can too.

What was the subject again? Oh Yeah, Union people don't vote or support democrats. I think we got this figured out? The leadership does, because they know what they are doing for their members. A Majority of members do because most of the members have government employment. Except for the union guys that post on here.

"Reagan was the only president in American history to have belonged to a union, the AFL-CIO affiliated Screen Actors Guild. And he even served six terms as president of the organized labor group." Pretty sure he was a Democrat then.

Like any of it matters. It's all bs. We spend too much time working in this country union or not. It's fall. Hunting has begun. Go wet a line or shoot your quarry. Enjoy your time. Most of the people in here are older and closer to the end. I just got back from a walk in the woods hunting for the elusive puffball mushroom. Good to be out. what cal rifle to you use for that? I was just telling my wife I needed a new mushroom hunting rifle!!

While I’m on call this week, I just finished cleaning the trees and root systems out of my gutters while waiting for my union/corporate phone to ring so I can go and make some double time…..lol On a side note, I think I should start doing this once a year. Daughter & boyfriend show up when I’m putting the ladder away……classic blisters, show up when the works done.

Like you, I’m on call this weekend. Even get paid just to carry the phone regardless if anyone calls or not.
I honestly think some on here believe the Union owns the company. The company sets their expectations and rules. The Union just ensures they do what they say.
For instance, many years ago a hurricane was on its way and the company immediately put out mandatory working that weekend. They cancelled all vacations (declared an emergency) and all off days. People weren’t happy, but we understood. Well late Wednesday evening, before the hurricane was supposed to hit that Saturday, it took a hard left towards Texas. The company came out Thursday afternoon and said the emergency was canceled and vacations and off days were back on. Fine and dandy except folks had canceled reservations/flights/plans/etc. We had the option of guaranteed 8hrs Saturday and Sunday or take off if it wasn’t a scheduled day. I cleaned my truck at the work center 8hrs Saturday on double time and 8 hours Sunday for time and a half. If it wasn’t for the Union, we would have just been at the companies mercy. And yes, I was one of the ones that had to cancel reservations and plans. Unions SHOULD be a company. They're basically temp agencies but with legal monopolies. Eg, should be Bob's Welders and BIlly's Welders, and Rosey's Welders. They make a contract for x dollars amount paid to the union and the union pays the welders. Just like every other third party vendor that works in this country. That way everyone knows who the problem is and can switch labor companies if they think the ones they work for now are on the road to self destruction.
