The us government never confiscated gold. Confiscated means they take things and give you nothing.
When the banks would not give you your money if you had silver you were better off than the folks who had nothing.

1933, Executive Order 6102 mandated that US citizens surrender most of their gold to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 per troy ounce, which is equivalent to $487 in 2023. The order was justified as a way to stabilize the banking system during the Great Depression after a severe bank run. Violations of the order could result in a $10,000 fine (equivalent to $235,000 in today's currency)

hmm kind of like a buy back on guns. Sure we are making you surrender your property ut don't worry we will pay you for it with tax money we took from you. Or you know bankrupt you and take every thing you own or put you in jail in the case of guns

ya that's not confiscation! Wake up!!

A forc3d buyback is not a confiscation and the great depression started in 29 not 33. So, as I said during the last 'event' folks who had gold and silver were better off than those who had no gold and silver. Plus the 'confiscation' had exemptions. Not all gold was ordered to be bought back

Just as a side story: I rented farmland off of an old guy. He told me that when the bank went busted they gave them a few cents on the dollar. Also he said that the bank gave out piggy banks to their customers kids. The banks had locks on them that only the bank had a key to and every so often the kid would take the piggy in and the bank would open it and deposit the money on the kids account. Well when the bank went broke they sent out notice they were calling in all the piggy banks too. The old guy told them hades would freeze over before they got that money that was in that kids piggy bank. They busted up the pig and kept 100% of the cash. Bet that piggy would be worth something today !

glad I don't live in your world.

you can't buy back what was not yours to begin with. It's theft with a small amount on compensation. maybe rape is OK in your mind as long as the girl gets paid?

Not really an investment, more of a novelty, but I did get a couple of these.

Rape? laugh

I am not in favor of a forced government buyback of private property but that is not a confiscation. That is the point I made. How you come up with i am in favor of rape is ludicrous.
It is pretty simple, possession of of gold and silver is not a bad thing. Possession of firearms is not a bad thing either but in the past gold and silver was more valuable. That is what history tells us. Economic collapse is far more likely than mad max.

If the government mandates you turn in your guns will you?]

What percentage of gold do you think was actually turned in?

Crack, meth and fentanyl are all illegal, it isn't hard to find. Pass all the laws they want people will ignore them.

They didn't make it illegal to own jewelry. It's easy enough to melt your gold into some form of jewelry.

Nuclear detonation Marty? If we go to war and there is an exchange of nukes its over. Humanity as we know it will not survive.

I read an article some years back about a guy that went to open a safety deposit box he was left when a relative died. It had 5 million worth of us hold coins. he sent them in for authentication. the government keep them saying it should have been turned in back then. last I hear it was in court.

just something that's always been on the back of my mind.

but hey let's get hung up on word games or just say we'll you wouldn't turn it in.

it's happend in the past and is a risk.

You are worried about the gubbemint confiscating gold and in the next sentence say ammo and guns are more valuable?

What are they more apt to confiscate in this day and age?

That was just an example but:

A limited exchange is possible. There can be nuke accidents, terrorism, dirty bombs and so on. History tells us anything can happen. I go with history. Nukes have been used already and humanity is still here.
The point is that anyone who says they will never leave/have to leave the prepped homestead is not actually prepped. In the last 10 years whole towns have had to run for it with little/no notice. 99% of those folks had no time to pack even a few bottles of water and were then dependent on the government.
A person who is prepped is prepped to stay or to leave as necessary. Most people who say they have a gun and therefore can take all that someone has fail to realize that everyone has guns but only a small % of people are trained and that does not mean slow fire from a shooting bench.
#1 prep is being fit and trim-we live in a nation of fat slobs.
#2 prep is skills-training-we live in a nation of skillless people.
#3 prep is a bag with survival items that is rede to go.

Marty, you are correct, I can't say I'd never leave.

But if it comes to fight or flight, well......

You probably thought that was funny. It's telling, you'd give up your freedoms at the drop of a hat.
