My son is getting his flock of sheep ready for the Fair this weekend

And anothah Fair in Maine ..the next weekend.

This is a 7 month old Ram Lamb...Oxford

Lots of " Fitting "...wash and dry them...trim hoofs...carding..shearing...and

Hand scissor work...to get them looking like this.

He's bringing 5 total to both fairs

Breed character

Appropriate size...not skinny...not fat

Length of loin

Checking for off mouth

Color

How clean the animal is

Bone structure....front end...hips and depth

How they walk in the ring....good set of feet and legs...not down on their pasterns

And how they set up for the judge ...not jumping or fighting the handler

Thanks Nessmuck. If you have a winner, is there any backend to make from breeding?

Oh yes...that one on the stand is sold 1,000.00.

To a person in Indiana.

There is a whole network of people hauling live stock trailers to get it to its Destination.

For instance...this ram lamb is getting hauled from our house...to the Louisville KY Show...and the new owner is picking it up there.

My son places pretty good with his show flock.

interesting that the fairs in the NE are so late in the year

in WI fair season is done when the kids go back to school Sept 1

Open class showing ?

state or county fair?

does he ever pick up all the wool trimmings and bag them up for lure holders for trapping ?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

County Fair

The Deerfield Fair is now 148 years ...New Englands Oldest Family Fair

Runs for 4 Days ...always towards the end of September

Yes...showing in the open show

Oxfords are considered a dual breed ...but more for meat than wool

Yes...we save some wool...for lure holding

Hope you guys have a great weekend, most of our fairs out west have ended and the jackpots too. Waiting on the first set of AI and embryo transplants to hit the ground any day.

Gunleg , my son breeds and sells "club " lambs for a living .

Then ...this Sunday ..when they get dismissed....he loads up the camper and sheep..

And goes directly to the Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg Maine.

About 2 hours north ...on the edge of the White mountains.

Some years be known to get a little snow ..during the fair.

And some frozen water buckets ..lol

Is the Fryeburg Fair as neat as it seems when watching videos of it and looking through its web site.the oxen events are something we don't have in Missouri.

Huge AG fair for sure

Lumber Jack Competitions

Ox and horse pulling

Even has a sulkie racing track ..with betting ( last I knew ).

I am the guy that retrieves the camper on Sunday...

So it's been a while since I toured the happenings on the grounds

But the Barns are top notch...and filled with animals

Mostly AI as he is half owner or holds breeding rites to several rams, but there's all ways some for clean up around too.
