My new bride swears if you lay a wooden spoon across a pot it won't boil over.
I never heard of such. [Linked Image]

When my bride was younger, she found that if you leave a wooden spoon in the pot, it becomes a bent wooden spoon.

Did that while cooking in the bush in Alaska on campfires. Just put a stick over it. Worked!

Surprisingly it actually works. Unless the boil is so fast the foam moves really fast.

I've only done it when boiling potatoes. Never with any other foods.

The way it was explained to me is it breaks down the foam in the center of the pot and then the outer foam collapses into the spoon breaking down even further.

The wife does it, seems to work good for her.

It would be better to bend a stick than a wooden spoon.

I have heard of doing that, but I never think about it.
I don't do much cooking on the stovetop. Cook mainly on the grill and in the smoker.

Been doing it for years. Unless you really get a rolling boil, it works every time. Actually, I've never had it boil over even then.

I never remember to do that. Got a whipping with a wooden spoon once. I probably deserved it.
