As in a string of buckshot. In back of my mind, I seem to recall that once upon a time you could buy factory made #00 buckshot where pellets were tied together with a piece of string. As if they had been cast that way. So when fired, it was like slinging a wad of shot that stayed together.

Real or did I imagine it?

I know they make a double that way. Watched it nearly cut shooting gel in half. Whatever you hit is either dead or will be shortly.

The context I remember was from about 50 to 60 years ago. Geese coming out of Swan Lake refuge.......guys trying to pass shoot them out of range........idea / joke was if you missed the goose you always had a chance it might wrap around their neck like a set of Gaucho Bolas......and choke em to death.

But seems to me that really was a thing. The buckshot on a string.......not actually choking a goose.

And it was string......like a heavy braided fishing line........not wire.

In my youth the older guys (my dad and his friends) would talk about string shot. Buck shot tied together to get more a tighter group down range further for deer. This was in NJ where it was buckshot only for deer in the post war years......jk

One of the gentlemen I went to Sicily with, from Cleveland, used to make "alley busters" which were 12 gauge shotgun rounds, that contained lead shot, melted onto piano wire. They were fired at close distance, through sawed off shotguns.

The ones I am familiar with were called "Bolo" rounds and had fine wire molded through the pellets.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Once knew a guy who had been a St. Louis city cop. Said when they wanted to clear a dark alley, they would fire a few rounds of buckshot at ground level. Idea was to chop em off at the ankles. That was then..........try that now. 🥺

Way back in time, Remington would use a roll crimp on some loads.......and printed the contents on the shot card under the crimp. They also put a sticker on end of some folded crimp rounds that also had contents printed on it. I vaguely remember seeing one of those that mentioned buckshot and string. Idea was to keep the shot together to improve pattern at distance.

The modern version with a couple lead balls may have same idea behind them......if they fly straight and not like a knuckle ball.

This was similar to what I remember. They had several buckshot balls held together with wire like that. I shot one into some popple regrown one time and that was a real eye opener.

That’s what I watched them shoot through the ballistics gel…I wouldn’t want to get shot by that, lol.

Jersey hunters also usta melt wax and pour it into a shell with buckshot to make it fly like a slug (slugs were not legal then). I do not think it held together too good. The old paper buckshot rounds were only good out to about 40 yards so the boys just wanted to extend the range.
