I always have urine with. I use more in the summer but rarely use urine at fresh, clean sets in fall/winter.

Could you explain persnickety in a coyote. Boone in your area do you see an increase in movement and catch rate say about a month after whelping .In my area about late May my catch rates increase.I lay it to the coyotes out searching for food for the family. Appreciate your take on it.

I usually don’t start seeing more movement till mid to late June. July is when it really starts to pick back up.

But May can be incredibly hard if you’re trapping. Mommas not moving hardly at all but to water, and the old man and babysitter (if present) are doing all the grocery getting. It’s the month I have the least amount of equipment out by far.

Summer coyotes are frustrating. Dry pairs or individuals are on easy street food wise so they’re probably not hungry. They also aren’t territorial so you can’t use that against them.

Even pairs with pups, if you have to get into their core area (because they aren’t moving much) that’s often a very difficult place to try to catch them as they’re so familiar with everything. They’ll often shy away from anything new in that situation. And in my area, screwing around certainly within a 1/4 mile and usually even a 1/2 mile will just move them.

I probably catch half or more of my summer coyotes in blind sets.

2 most of the time. I probably use one of them on 80% of my sets

Everything the left touches it destroys

I carry 3 baits and a gland lure. On 95% of sets, no lure, bait only . I will use a little gland at pee post sets. It's my opinion, if your on location, not all the scents are needed. Not a big numbers guy, but seems.to work for me

Loud lures: I use one at the beginning of the season then switch to a different one at the half way point in the season.
Some sets I use just beaver castor/oil to keep the set less loud/skunky.

I've added some gland lure this year that I'll likely use in conjunction with castor.

So that makes 4?

For coyotes i use just two favorite lures. Sometimes i just use fresh bait. Remember, location is what you need. And an undisturbed looking set

TILL THAT DAY.....
