Sorry to hear of his passing, he was one great baseball player. His hustle was his trademark. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. X2

I admired him as a player and the hustle factor..........then came that all star game where he took out Ray Fosse at home plate. Lost all respect after that..........

Bottom of 12th, score tied, Fosse blocking the plate up the third base line. I didn't see anything wrong with what he did.

Pete Rose was defiant and lied when asked if he'd ever bet on baseball. He was playing the odds (again) he wouldn't get caught. He did. The no betting rules were posted in every dugout he was ever in. Thought that it didn't apply to him. FAFO.

I had that explained to me in no uncertain terms. Was playing in a very competitive softball league and went hard into shortstop to break up a double play. When I got back to the bench, an older guy told me if I ever tried that again....if the other team didn't rough me up he would. "These guys work for a living and we don't need anybody getting hurt over a stupid softball game".
At time, Fosse was a young, upcoming catcher........good enough he was playing in all star game.......but that play cut short his career. He went on to play a few more years but was never the same. I still say it was a "Richard" move.
After that, began to pay attention. Best response I ever saw to that was a big guy who was catching for us. Guy came barrelling in.......catcher saw what was happening and let the ball fly......put his shoulder down to get under the guy then came up hard.........runner flew over his head to land about 10 feet behind the plate. While runner was trying to figure out what happened, catcher went and found the ball and tagged him out.

Dead at 83.
Put the man in the dang Hall of Fame already. You said it he was the best and no player today can put the effort on the field everyday like Rose did and gets banned for betting on his team to win every game maybe not right but he never bet on them to lose that I have ever heard,

He was given a lifetime ban. His lifetime is over. Put him in the HOF as a player.
As per the collision, Fosse blocked the base path with no ball near his glove either. He should have never been standing in the base path up the line as well.
