A friend gave me this rather beat-up Glock frame. I'm trying to figure out what model it is so I can see if I can buy the parts to rebuild it. Anyone have any knowledge to share? I've never handled a Glock before; not at all impressed with the materials, and zero workmanship involve as far as I can see.

Looks like a gen 2.
Is the magazine labeled 9mm?

I have personally taken one of mine over 3K rounds without a cleaning and it just ran and ran and ran
they don't really fit your hand , you train till they become natural
they are not sexy they are a hunk of plastic and metal that works in the simplest way possible there is basically nothing there that doesn't need to be
they are actually amazingly well thought out to just function
it is like an ugly hammer that just goes and goes and goes and when something wears out it is a 5 minutes fix with 1 tool a single punch and your ready to run again
change the recoil springs on the gen 1,2,3 every 4K rounds and ever 8K on the Gen 4, 5

Look at the magazine. It may be marked on there.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I would buy a Glock if I could get my hands on a switch!
Otherwise, I like other pistols better.
Regardless, good luck with your project. switches are not worth it go to some full auto rental place you can wear yourself out on it in a day and save yourself the headache I have only shot a little full auto , it's fun to rip controlled burst into targets (rifle not pistol) but not worth it to me to spend big money and not really useful for much if there is a venn diagram for useful, legal , full auto , the intersecting area is basically got some fun at a range as the only real legal useful full auto most guns you can already send another round as the sights return to target and have shots on target faster than you can assess if the first round was effective. want to shoot a deer 3 times before it hits the ground , already completely possible with your 1960s Rem 742 edit : however don't confuse my statement above for me thinking it shouldn't be legal , it absolutely should . GCA34 is a sham

since the only Gen 1 Glocks were the 17, 18 , 19 and the 18 could never be imported to civilians in the US it is a 17 the 17 and 18 are only different in the upper any way.
the 19 has the shorter barrel and grip

GCA34 is a sham Agree, full auto is fun as all get out but for serious work pretty much useless in anything not belt fed and on bipod or tripod. Full auto is an area weapon and without a means to control it is a waste of ammo. Of course there are those skilled enough to do controlled pairs or bursts with shoulder fired but that's lots of dedicated trigger time. Fired the uzi while in the service and that one will more than drive home my point. And I too agree fun as all get out should be fully legal and encouraged.

That is the frame to a Gen 2 glock 17. It only has 1 locking block pin - the Gen 2 Glock 22 would have 2 pins. The gen 1 Glock 17 frames didn't have checkered front straps or the textured back strap - the gen 1 frames were smooth with a light pebbled texture all the way around the grip. That grip you have pictured is from a Gen 2 glock 17. Your pic shows a magazine in it , is it a 9mm magazine ?

Gen 1,2 and early gen 3 9mm had 1 locking block pin. Later gen 3 9mms had 2 locking block pins. .40 cal glocks have 2 pins.

Is the portion of the firearm I have considered the frame/receiver? It appears to be missing the slide, barrel, hammer and other parts. Would it be economical to get this up and running?

I would say yes if it's only missing thos parts if there's more than those gone I would say no parts get expensive.
