I could have swore a read an article that rats were attracted to orange golf balls.

Charlie Dobbins wrote about them being attracted to green on land and white underwater.

Have you noticed rats really being attracted to certain colors?

White looks like their food source.

Well they like orange peels under ice. Or potato chunks. Some people catch them with just orange or white tape.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I've seen neon yellow or orange tape on traps under water.

I have found white, orange and lime green(best) to be attractive to m’rats here. Colors that are food source they favor.

Ornge works the best for me under the ice, then white, red and green. Orange quite a bit better so far. Maybe why carrots work well as bait as well.

Most attractive color most likely varies by area by what is favored food source. I known cattail roots are white. Arrowhead root bulbs and water Lilly root are orange. Not sure what is light green.

Most animals that are active at night are color blind. Can't say for sure but they probably are, white should be the color they see the best.

And If they are color blind what are the chances they can see under water. Especially when there Is snow covered Ice. But under all these conditions white would seem like the best color.

The results of my under ice color test of several dozen stakes with one white ,one orange, one lime green piece of foam on a headless nail on six bodies of water was ALL lime green gone, approx 3/4 white and about one half orange gone or heavily chewed in one week time. The same test above at surface of open water yielded about the same color preference %'s but only about 1/4 of stakes had any color taken( about 1/2 with some bite marks). Clearly foam was much less attractive open water except when placed in pocket sets or feed beds where they had to cross over a foothold to find out the foam was inedible. For me lime green is the overall best producer. And when I'm placing foam wedges I either pin them in place with a wire pin or wire to BG trigger and recover over 95% of them. Always seems to be a few chewed to bits by a a m'rat with no taste, lol. Can't prove color vision but they can to me tell they difference in them.

Never used flagging for rats except to find the trap……

Always used the pink,,, because that is what survives and the county used ,,,, beer cans when road trapping,,,,,,,(old Indian trick,,,,,,,,)

Many mammals don’t have good color vision. Dogs don’t.

Don't forget flashy silvery metal like the body gripper replacement triggers....rats seem to be attracted to those too.
White pvc pieces cut down and holes drilled out to fit triggers is a killer for beaver and rats under ice.
