It looks like a group ferns in my warm season grass. Northern Indiana, if anyone has any ideas. Thanks

Lespedeza aka bush clover. We have both native and non native invasive species. I can't ID which from that photo other than to say what it's not. It is not serica lespedeza as it grows with straight upright stems.

Great, seems like it just showed up 3 or 4 years ago. Thanks

Unfortunately from the pictures I say it is definitely Sericea (unfortunately as well I have a lot of experience with it).

And, is considered an invasive non-native plant. That one looks like the Korean variety.

Just an FYI to Anybody who might not be aware. Google lens has gotten very good at identifying plants and fungus for me lately. It used to be a little hit or miss but seems to have gotten really good, especially with food plot weed identification.

Its only as good as those who take pictures and label them in the photo data section. The data base for Google is compiled by taking the photos that you or someone else has randomly taken and labeled. If you have given access to the pictures on your phone to the web, which most people have whether they realize it or not.

Not mares tail, this is what it looks like out my kitchen window, the bright green mass. I sprayed it with 2-4-D yesterday. I guess it does have some benefits for wildlife, but I want to get rid of it. I had it all sprayed with 2-4-D a month ago. Maybe it got missed, or it needs something like crossbow, we will see. Thanks for the help on the identification.

I remember when the ag extension folks were recommending Sericea lespedeza planting along edges for wildlife cover. Sort of like the idiots who recommended multiflora rose and kudzu for erosion control. Autumn Olive comes to mind as well. And don't forget Bradford pear.

Only 100% way to identify as Sericea is to get a picture of the three leaf groups(legume). I am almost 100% positive it is Sericea from the pictures. If it is Sericea then it is a long-term problem. It is good for little birds, that is it, and they have plenty of else to eat. Out competes everything else. 2-4d won't work, especially now. Now all the seeds have formed. It will be a pain but if that is the only patch I would cut it now and trash bag it. Only thing that really does any good is triclopyr sprayed in June/July. Keep spraying every year and the patch will shrink (roots keep it going). Go through the whole native grass patch in June/July looking and spraying.

It was a lot more widespread last year and I had the whole thing sprayed with crossbow and burned it all off this spring. There are a few patches, but there is no way I am mowing and picking it up. I will try crossbow on problem areas next year early in the summer.

Our wildlife department used to provide free plant seeds to attract quail. I think it was in the seed packs.
