Skint, skun and skunt is common vernacular for Kentucky too.

Too much drinking of that fine whiskey made in Kentucky has stunted the vocabulary grin

The Norwegians up here would be very confused...

For deep South beaver pelts, that's not too bad.

I seen one of your receipts last season and you killed it with your southern beaver. I think $20USD is dang good for green beaver.

Got lucky and hit it right. And GFW came thru for us down here.

Tug Hill is a great beaver when caught under ice. I bought those for years from Pete Smith (gone but not forgotten) Pete was a great guy and a good furbuyer. I would make a guess that the market will open very cautiously with a little to bit of a low price, and then mature into a higher price if the catch is a little off.

I don't understand that, small beaver have the thinnest leather and puffy underfur. They should be worth more per lb. for hatter price.

Eeyup.

Problem is these past few years at a local level everything has been thrown on a scale and paid the same. Doesn't matter if a fall beaver with little under fur, southern beaver with no under fur, May beaver losing its fur or a good winter heavy

Thats because they needed quanity. Now the panic is behind them and the quality will be more important.

I should mention that the carcasses I sell are bought by an outfitter with a possession permit......otherwise it's a no-go here.

Yes, Tug Hill Plateau beaver always grade well if caught at the right time of year. Adirondack beaver as well. Interesting fact, according to the NYState Fish &Game Comm. report for 1902-03, there were only 2 known beaver colonies left in NY State at that time and they were in the Town of Webb Herkimer County in the Adirondacks. Plenty of beavs in NY now. They were restored on Tug Hill in the 1930’s.

Quality and hatters is a whole new phenomenon in the fur trade. Used to what was not good quality we’re hatters. And hatters were graded by size. Groeny changing the rules as he goes here. Tells me the market is shaky. If you’re going to trap winter beavers I’d say ship them. Let em try to scrounge up hatters. When they needed beavers the double talk about maximizing your profit wasn’t there. LOL

Nah it's because they can and it's easy.

Throw them on the scale and write out a check

Hammer shipping them isn't necessarily the answer anymore.

If I'd have waited until the May sale is have left my profits on the table.

Who knows what is right anymore. The market has turned into a Walmart model

Think last year the country was the way to go with the right buyer. I thinking the beaver wagon this year is going to have a lot of 3-10 dollar beaver. Walmart indeed. Although even big numbers in about all items means very little money.

You can never say never. But it better happen pretty soon. I keep saying there are very few ranch mink in the world rats are going to shine again. Unfortunately the Chinese don’t seem to be listening.

According to dusty ranch mink are creeping up. Now that your retired you could start ranching again

We aren't getting a true rat boom until the dollar weakens 20 percent.

There is intrest in rats apparently according to the FHA market report.
Didnt say at what price though. They probly got enough even if none are trapped this year.
