Georgia's bow season opened September 14th. It was hot and I wasn't very interested in sitting in that heat and humidity. Then that blasted hurricane smacked us and that kinked up any plans to hunt during that cool spell we got right after the storm.
Well, I came up to my camp 100 miles north of the Ga-Fl line this past Thursday with plans to bowhunt Friday and then gun hunt Saturday October 19th (Georgia's firearm season opening day).
My dang knees were killing me Friday morning and I didn't hunt, but did bowhunt Friday evening...seeing one doe and a 2 yr old 8 pointer within 30 yds. Not interested in them.
Rifle hunted Saturday morning till noon. Bladder full or I'd sat all day. Saw 7 does & yearlings, two 6pts, and a decent 8pt. No interest in them. One of the 6s and the 8 was chasing a doe. Also saw +/-15 hogs in a group but wasn't about to bloody up this stand area with no stinking pig.
Got back in stand at 1600 hrs and had 5 does and yearlings all around me by 1730. They stayed there until 1845 feeding. At 1900 one of my target bucks (one-eyed 9pt) showed up. I shot him at 35 yds. He ran towards me and collapsed under the tree my stand is in. I looked up and another nice buck is approaching. I'm thinking that rascal must be deaf as I'm shooting a 7mm-08. A quick decision was made and I ended my 2024 buck season on the 1st day.
