Started our year archery hunting on the NF, no luck but had a nice time.
Moved on to the ranch we work for and had success after the LO and his family left, they took only 1 cow elk.

On to mule deer and elk for the rest of Oct, spouse is looking for a nice bull and we have 2 cow tags left to fill but can buy more.
No mature mule deer bucks spotted yet but looking forward to the last week in Oct for pre rut and mature bucks to stage with doe groups.

This is open country hunting with some rugged terrain, steep- rocky draws and ridges.
Back at it next week for about 7 days or so, till end of deer season for mule deer. We have until end of Jan to fill additional cow elk tags.

Spouse passed on this small 6 pt, didn't want top pack it out of the deep draw and we had 2 elk hanging.
This sharp-tail grouse fed in the yard for an hour, couldn't bring myself to shoot it.

I just got back Friday night from Cody and it was terrible. The only Elk we saw were Bulls and only a few. The trip was a total bust and no one saw a cow. The outfitter called this morning and invited us back out free of charge later this year when they finally come down out of the high country.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have four points for elk, I was told they doubled the point requirement, I'll be 72 before I get enough points now, if I'm still alive I guess, really sucks they did that

The nonresident general tags can be quite fusterating, can't go into "wilderness areas" as they are only for residents. Last time I was out there a group of elderly Texans hiked off into a "wilderness area" for a picnic and I wasn't even allowed to go in there hunting, it's kind of a joke.

Frustrating to say the least, but its designed to be so. You can do whatever in the wilderness areas, as long as your not hunting without a guide.

I have no clue what you are referring to.
Check the draw odds for any given area or region and apply for a license.
The LQ areas will always take more PP because they are better hunting but general regions can be drawn with 5 PPs in the regular draw, less in the Special draw.
There were some bull licenses that could be drawn this year with 4 PPs and a multitude of cow licenses. Reduced price cow licenses do not even take PPs to draw.

All of the drawing odds are here:

You can also get a resident to guide you for free and yes the law is stupid but the outfitters push it.
Make no sense you all can do anything but big game hunt in wilderness areas without a guide, thank the Wyoming state guides association for that.

My friend that lives in Newcastle is good at hunting elk, he uses mules, he looked it up for the area I hunted I think the points doubled

Cow elk down for the spouse and mule deer buck for me. Hubby passed on some bucks last morning and a small 5 pt raghorn bull.
Still have a cow elk tag or 2 to fill and share some meat.
Taking a 17 yr old out for his 1st elk also in Nov.
