BINGO! It wouldn't be surprising at all if the hatters were first graded for "FLAT-SEMI-and then HEAVY" and different values assigned to each pile this year. That instead of everything lumped together.

You don't think that was happening last year? Do you think everyone one got the same price for felt beaver?

I guess some consider actual grading guesswork? No need to grade out leather damages for the felt market.Just weight of the underfur.Must be a lot of discount there though to allow for pelts dried with saddles on etc(weight other than underfur)
Grading out leather damages is a must for those who need good garment quality beaver

What percentage of your beaver do you think went to the garment market?

All the big heavy winter ones.not that many percentage wise since I havent trapped that much under ice last few years.
Definitely the few big ones thru the ice that sell high price to garment market brings up the avg nicely on the late fall beaver.
I plan to do more under ice beaver this winter if my legs hold out and our winter is not too bad weatherwize.

Maybe toward the end of last year, yes. But I think most of them were just weighed. That trend will become more pronounced this year.

I’ve pulled up to the rat wagon only to hear groeny say he’d give me x$ per skin without even looking at them. These were shearable beaver that he certainly couldn’t grade in a stack by eyesight. I drove off and doubled my money at FHA. I won’t put up with his horse dodo.

There used to be a guy named Greg that ran the route around here…he treated me right. Idk what happened to him.

You have that option to go with FHA (and still recognize a profit after all the deductions.)

When you don't other options to market your fur your opinions will change of any willing buyer.

Sounds like a quote from the AR guys. But I do agree in the right places beavers do a lot of good. In other places...well, that's why we trappers get the calls.

You too BP.
There is lots of fur in the cooler to skin for competition or just demonstration.
Come and enjoy your facility

Would love to go.....just to see that country and talk trapping. But, in January, I'll probably be wading in a water somewhere in southern Ga.

Its only a couple days-friday and saturday.
Let your traps work for a couple days while your here.
You wont find a trappers convention anywhere like the FHA convention.

Did they always have it in January?
Swampy would get the glove at the boarder, everyone is heading south for winter, and this stinker is coming up?…..lol.

He has a point. Going to barely be able to buy a 30 box with a decent finished beaver. Everything costs a lot more, except our fur...
