I use a buck vanguard and also have a buck 191 zipper, which is the same thing as the vanguard but with a gut hook. Never got into folders. I just don't see the point. Why have a folder?

I do not carry a knife with me every day. Perhaps I should.

I bought my dad a Buck 110 ( comes with belt sheath).. back in 1975 for Christmas.

And he passed in 2002 and the knife resides in the safe...and does get used on occasion

Everyone should always have a good knife on them. I prefer this one its a cheap Kershaw Emerson design. I use it for everything it large enough for all task even defense also thin enough I don’t know it's in my pocket. the funny shoe on top of the blade opens it when taking it out of your pocket if you pull it out with some backward pressure it catches on th seam of the pocket and its open one handed faster and easier than spring assest and switch blades.

This knife has processed at least 20 deer They have quit Making it unfortunately. both of the boys liked it so I gave them the extras I bought when I found out they were no longer going to be made. They were around 50 so nothing I'm going to get to heart broken about if lost ot broken.

I feel necked if I don't have a knife on me and have even called into work and been late to go home or to a store and pick one up when I have forgot one. Seems weird to me when a man does not have a knife on him.

door check is knife , gun , keys , wallet , phone

most days it is a buck 110 slim

Men carry pocket knives it is sad where people have fallen to , poking at packaging and asking to borrow a scissors anywhere they go.

even my wife carries a knife.

bucks have always been hard for me to sharpen. I have had a lot of them over the years unless they are on a belt they don't carry as well as others.

used to keep a 2" blade Gerber or Schrade that had a hole in the handle on my key chain. Intact the Schrade was in that roll was the first knife I ever wore out. It's blade was very short and thin from sharpening over the years and the lock blade would no longer lock at all. Gutted a lot of deer and cleaned a lot of squirrel and rabbit with that little thing. None of the replacements ever came close to lasting as long as the first.

I sport a Buck 110. Got each of my groomsmen one when I got married. Every one of them still uses them for deer.

I’ve had no issues keeping it stupid sharp with a Lansky hand sharpener. Use it on my nice kitchen knives too.

Diamond steel works for me

if you have a really hard steel the worksharp is a good way to go
you can get about anything shaving sharp on a worksharp ken onion , blade grinder
I get the redlabel abrasives replacment belts I like their grit range , then run it on the stopping belt

I have looked at those in the past and thought I would wear a blade out fast and it seemed like ther was a place it woul be hard to get the very back of the blade sharp. I have always Ben an 8" double sided stone finished off on a steel and if I want to shave a leather strop.

But I used to hand file my chainsaw changes also and now use an electronic sharpener. Yes I wear out changes faster taking more off but it saves a lot of time. changes are consumables as are knifes so I should check them out again.

USA made Buck or Old Timer for me. Old Timers take an edge really nice but don't hold it as long as the buck knives. As mentioned diamond stones are the way to go especially with the USA made bucks.

My wife needed something cut. She looked at me and asked, do you by chance have your knife. I just rolled my eyes because she already knew I did. Every man needs to carry a knife. We travel out of the country every year and I still figure out a way to have a knife wherever we are.

For every day I like a folding Spiderco with a partial serrated edge for bale strings or netting. I have several knock offs from gun shows that have held up well.

For deer and wild hogs I have a Buck 110 and fixed blade Kersshaw that has a fine blade and the thick rubberized handle. Using those 2 my hand never wants to cramp up and the only need a touch up sharpening every other job.

the difference in belts is you don't have to go back to the coarse
once you have your bevel set you can us a steel for a while then when it needs more than a steel , yo can use a fine belt to jut bring the edge back

a knife maker friend of mine showed me how he re-sharpens on his 2x72 belt grinder a few years before I was looking into the work sharp

he takes his most worn out belt and that is good to just clean up an edge that isn't in need of a bevel reset

I hit most of the kitchen knives once a year and don't go back to anything coarse , the once twice a year touchup sharpening only takes a few minutes and starts around 600 or 800 , diamond steel in between
you can still get a lot of life from a blade with a work sharp around.
