I got my first red fox today. Pretty exciting as this is my first year trapping. In fact it's my first catch in a foothold. I set a couple traps last weekend and one kept getting dug up. When I found a scat pile I put a trap below it and sure enough that's the trap that got it. My goal for the whole season was to get a fox, I thought I'd get a lot of skunks or coons before I got a fox.

So now that I've caught it, do I continue to keep my sets in the same spots? Or is this a "one and done" type deal if they're solitary creatures? I see people will reuse the same spots for coyotes but wasn't sure about fox.

Keep your sets there. Catching one fox greatly improves your chances for another.

are yout traps free from sitting and bedded well. Maybe you got some lure or bait on your hands that got on your traps or they are not bedded solid. those two things will get them dug up.

Thanks everyone! I really am super pumped to hear that I can catch more in the same spot. I'll go set a few more traps too. I could have gotten lure or bait on my hands, I think they weren't very solid at first though. I've been watching lots of videos and trying to mimic what they do. I sure tried to find a mentor but when that doesn't work out, you make do!
