The deer will walk by when you are in the beer parlour.

You might see more action on the bar stool than in the woods. Deer movement here is very slow. Don't know what's going on.

Well, it is Halloween.

He walked by bout 5:15 Boco.


What a great time in the woods today.
Was chomping at the bit to get in a stand by 3:00.
Was getting showered up, looked out the windows and there were deer already up
moving.
Thought crap!.

Had a window of opportunity to get in a stand about 150 yards from the cabin.
Got dressed and hustled.
Started seeing deer almost immediately.
Could not see what many were as it's in real thick cover but just by judging the way the were moving, it appeared that bucks were chasing does.
Had a decent 4x4 come by harassing a doe. He was really " horned up".
He stopped his chase, turned and looked behind him and his demeanor change big time.
I grabbed my bow then.
This guy came crashing in, stood all puffed up and started making a scrape. I had to turn to make the shot and did so while he was making the scrape. (Dead calm).

Was a picture perfect heart shot at 22 yards. He ran about 20, stopped for a few seconds and started walking but I could see blood pumping out of him.
He made it another 20 and he tipped over.

Climbed down, walked to the cabin and called my best friend. Said, " will be there in 10 minutes".

Easy trail to follow.
He's a heavy deer and dragging him out was a chore.

He was one of 2 bucks I wanted to take. Will be interesting to see how all the younger bucks will react to him being gone.

Firm believer that they help with in/ out penetration, less shock to the animal and shorter bloodtrails.

Looking back through the years, I've favored early/ mid November for bowhunting.
Starting to revise that now as I'm " getting up there" in age.

Climbing trees ,sitting in snow, and freezing has become not so fun anymore.
Gonna start embracing hunting a bit earlier and enjoy the temps.
